I see that the forum is going to be down from 14:00 today, so I just wanted to let my friends here know that I probably won't get online next week.

Mr LW has some leave to use up, so he's got next week off, and we're (lupus permitting) going to be having some nice days out. One planned visit is to Batsford Arboretum, which will happen on the first day that looks like being nice enough to be outdoors all day.:p

Anyway, I didn't want anyone worrying why I'd gone quiet.:o

Look after each other, and may your Black Dogs stay asleep.
If your dog thinks you're the best, don't seek a second opinion.;)

Have a great week and enjoy yourselves :j. Feel free to leave your black dog here and we'll take it in turn to go "walkies".

I have tried to refrain from commenting on some posts on here but as someone who works in a senior position within the NHS I am concerned by this.

If someone told you that your mother was too ill for visitors then you need to go back to them and you need to get their name and discuss this with the PALS service. Back in the 50s yes staff often told visitors not to visit, but nowadays this is not the case, if someone is very ill then restrictions may be placed, when I was on life support for instance they recommended that my 3 children all under the age of 5 not vist as the trauma would be too much, and sometimes babe in arms are excluded from critical wards due to infection risks, but that is all. However patients are not prisoners and you cannot be excluded from a ward unless you are endangering the staff or patients.

Some treatments can be traumatic and patients may be weak and again some staff may suggest a short visit or even a quiet sit by the bed out of normal visitng times. I am very concerned that you were told not to visit at all as I think this has serious repercussions for both of you. Feeling guilty by not visiting will not be helped because you were advised not to go, believe me guilt is a dreadful thing and in your current frame of mind I think this could affect you badly and is the last thing you need.

Phone back, talk to the ward sister and get a specific time to visit, if you meet any resistance then go to PALS (Patient advice and Liasion service) and get them to help.

You'll find the direct ward numbers here:

    http://www.christie.nhs.uk/contact/telephone.aspx

and this is the PALS service
Patient advice and liaison service (PALS)

As I have put in my other post I know what is going on and completely trust what I am being advised by the hospital.
Thanks for your concern though. I was told that probably by Tuesday next week that we can go visit if we want.

No rain here as yet but the potential for a miserable weekend weather wise appears to be dragging me down somewhat so off to be positive and fight back

Well, I can't believe it - it's been sunny all day here and certainly it wasn't forecast to be. DH put all the washing on the line and it has dried :T. DS has gone to the match and I'm half watching 'Bear Island' on channel 5 with Christopher Lee and Donald Sutherland. I didn't think Kiefer looked much like his dad, but watching this 1979 film I can see the resemblance ;).

The SAD daylight bulbs arrived yesterday so we have them in the wall lights and the effect is great - although DS says from outside it looks like we have one of those electric fly traps on :rotfl:. I just need to source some at a good price for the central light fitting as that is a small Edison screw rather than bayonet fitting. Some places charge silly money though .

Almost forgot - have a great Samhain :D I'm not doing anything special, apart from maybe scrying into the wood burner whilst scoffing a take-away .
