  • I'm amazed at all the problems I've been reading on this thread. I had no problems ordering my stuff. The website was a bit slow on Wednesday morning but that's all. My delivery came yesterday, earlier than they said it would. Everything was in it and all at the correct sale prices.

Sounds like Boots need to do some work on their systems and processes before the next sale.
  • Got my "been despatched" email late last night :)

I agree - I really hope Boots doesn't give up on its online Sale - both this year & in future years. However, this year's fiasco must have caused them so much angst (can you imagine being a CS Advisor there ) - I don't think they will be able to proceed without some significant changes.
I think the major problem is that is probably being treated by some individuals as a Wholesale facility, but it is not geared up for that.
My friend witnessed, instore, a group of 4 women who had 6 of those humungous bags (like you get sand or cement delivered in) sweeping entire shelves of the same Sale product into them. It nearly caused a riot as no-one else could get round them & their monster-sized bags so they single-handedly cleared the shelves, plus it subsequently monopolised Checkout for hours!!!
I remember witnessing a similar incident last year & from what I have read here, a few other peeps have seen this happening in their local stores also.
Obviously, these people are buying huge quantities (Wholesale) to re-sell & if they are doing it in-store, they are probably doing it online also. However, the website is designed as a Consumer site, not a Wholesale one & it isn't difficult to imagine how a good few people putting 100 products of each sale line in their baskets & hitting the button at the same time is going to completely freak the system out.
Likewise instore, they are so not geared for Wholesale activity either.
I don't intend to debate the morals of this, but I think quite simply, for purely operational reasons, Boots will have to decide if their Sales are going to be Consumer/Retail or Wholesale. If it is Consumer then they will have to put a limit (say 3 or 5) on the sale of each item. As we all know Supermarkets already do this on their Loss Leader Offers (usually a limit of 3), otherwise the stores would be full of Independent Retailers, Stall Holders etc. buying there instead of the Cash & Carry.
    What do you guys think?

thats terrible, some people can be so greedy, I agree with you about putting a limit on the amount of stuff people are buying, its not fair really. All the stuff I bought online and in the sale is for presents thoughout the yr and for myself. I couldnt even carry 100 items or even have the room for all that stuff. My cupboard is full now.
    I luv freebies

From previous posts, I don't think Boots can sort this out.

Other people have rung CS & they can't do anything, but you can clear it yourself by following these steps:

    1) Log out of your account

    2) Add something to the empty basket that is definitely in stock

    3) View the basket with the one item in it

    4) Use the "Log in" at the top right hand side of the screen to log back into your account & it brings up your basket in full. Then you need to manually delete any OOS items that are causing the error.

it makes me sooo cross:mad: why do people have to be so greedy, ok so we all like to make a bit of money but to clear whole shelves and leave nothing for anyone is not on, boots should have taken them in hand, there should be a limit per customer, i hope they get stuck with the stuff. if staff dont like pointing this out then they should be notices on the shelves. 2-3 per customer is fair, then nobody looses out.

anyway had my second order delivered today,:j i think it was probably yesterday but the next door neighbours children brought it round, i wish they would put cards through the door, as she also takes my next deliveries when im not in and she does not put card through door either, she must think i am a right lazy and ignorant c*w.

I was told by staff at Boots that one woman had told them she travelled 200 miles 1 week before the sale to check stock levels at all Boots in the area, made her list then went to them all and bought loads of stuff to sell on ebay. They said she made about so many trips back to her car to oad it all up it was ridiculous. She also told them that when Protect and Perfect first came out and got scarce, she went around all the Boots within a 200 mile radius and bought as much as she could lay her hands on and sold it on ebay and made £700 profit. She was quite proud to tell them she did it as a business. I think it is plain greedy. Everyone probably buys a few extras and might sell them on but to clear whole shelves and deprive everyone having a fair chance is beyond greedy I think. Really, the managers of each store should have used their sense and limited each item to 3 or 4 person. It's about time Boots organised their sales properly and fairly.

I'm not against people making abit of money but I think they should be decent about it and allow others a chance also.

I have seen people clearing the shelves when the sale started on Wednesday. I picked up a No.7 P&P for my wife, called her and she said get one for her mother. The remaining 10 on the shelf were gone into one persons trolley/bag. I was fuming, they were taking almost everything.
