According to Freemans website, the 32 and 26 inch non-IDTV models and the 32 inch IDTV model are all in stock. The delivery time for the 26 inch IDTV model is showing as 8 days.

Great, but why should I lose out on that 5% that I could have got from Quidco should Freemans have not screwed me around (also, the 6th Feb wasn't my first order, I was one of hte first ones in on this deal, hence the long story which I don't have time to tell, nor, but I was told the code would be valid upon ordering a catalogue and opening an account)

That's the problem with this country, people hate confrontation and will take things lying down. Hence our customer service is so poor relative to say, the USA. And this situation will be free to happen again. At least if a regulator gets on to them, they will have to tighten up their processes, maybe consolidate the separate divisions which are integral to the functioning of the company (or at least integral to good customer service).

Freemans should ahve done us all a favour and cancelled the whole lot to begin with. I honestly wouldn't have cared. Why aren't they? Because htey're still making money from this, obviously, and now they've taken up too much of my time dealing with this to just let it go.

Sounds like your story is exactly the same as mine. My point was that notwithstanding the extra 5% we were both promised, I have torn my hair out many times over the last seven weeks with Freemans ineptitude and pathetic customer service. I've had every reason and opportunity to stick two fingers up and say I'm never, ever going to order from you again and I'm going to make sure noone I know does either.

But I haven't. I've told a few friends who have also ordered with the caveat that it will be a long frustrating wait. But surely it is worth it in the end for this fantastic price - otherwise we would all have cancelled a long time ago surely? don't let the buzzards get you down - its quite clear they don't care, so just enjoy the £300 odd saving you're making on the high street :j

i believe the 25% the user is speaking of is the "25% off first order" not the recent one. So when oyu are promised 25% off then later told oh no 20%, isnt that kinda wrong?

Head right back to page 1 and you'll see....

The code became invalid. All trading standards will say is can the buyer provide proof that the code is theirs EG: a copy of a catalogue, email etc with that code in giving them a legal right to use it. The user most probably doesn't have it and was just being greedy and is STILL moaning despite an absolute bargain. Some folks eh....

<sigh>, right, you asked for it, full story time:

you're right, the initial code I read about on this website, and was cancelled. I called up to ask why, and was told that there is a new code and you have to open an account with them, sign their credit agreement, and receive a catalogue to use it, which I did. At that point, I become eligible for the 25% off. I ordered again with the new code, order cancelled again, sarah gibbs told me it's because the code is now invalid. I tell her about opening account and ordering a catalogue making it valid. She then changes her story to 'actually, the code is valid but the credit limit on your account is £100 and the TV is more than that, so your order was cancelled'.
So fair enough, I call up freemans and ask to pay it all at once on my credit card, and ask if I can use the code (if not, no loss, I can just order online with the 20% and get the extra 5% from quidco. just that I've never used Quidco and felt entitled to the full 25% from Freemans after someone who represents their company told me I can use it after opening an account and ordering a catalogue, which I did). She disappears for 5 minutes to talk to a supervisor, comes back, and says yes, that's fine.

It is ON THEIR COMPUTERS that I was entitled to the 25%, and that it would be applied to my order. Someone in Credit Control while putting the order through yesterday has just changed their mind about it, and they dont' have any kind of customer service or escalation of complaints, the buck stops with the pawn you're speaking to. So my only option is to escalate it. Why should I pay 80% when others are paying 75%? I wasn't greedy, I was just getting the same deal as everyone else.

Funny thing is, that I'm actually costing the company less by getting the 25% directly from them than from a combination of them + Quidco, as they don't have to pay Quidco a cut.
  • I read with interest your points, I understand what you are saying and I do think Freemans have made many mistakes in your purchase, As they have with mine and many others who post on here. But the fact still remains that they are selling a very good TV at over £100 (possibly £300) cheaper than anyone else. So Take the great deal for what it is and stop being greedy and whinging.
Your actions may make Freemans sort customer services out by investing a great deal of money into it. However it may also make tham say lets not try anything like this again incase we are taken to the cleaners again. They may next time word their terms and conditions that tight and tighten up the deal so that no one can actually take advantage of it (not much investment for this option). I know what I would do if I ran a compnay and read the responses from some of the posters on this forum. So why not take the TV at the best price you can get it and say Thank you ! Just remember with regards to the hassle you , me and others have had "There are no free diners in this world !")

What a load of rubbish! I'm happy with my telly and it was an absolute bargain at £480 less £24 for quidco. I, for one, am surprised that they honoured the orders. Stop your moaning, accept the bargain price, or buy from JL at a considerably higher price...

Not true - Quidco pass on the whole of the saving to the customer (less a £5 annual fee). Not only that, the 5% off through quidco is off the transaction amount of £480, not off the £600. So, Freemans are saving £6 with 20% + 5% through quidco, rather than 25% off directly.

I wasn't going to buy a TV though, and I wasn't going to shop at Freemans. Their offer of a 26 inch samsung LCD at £450-ish was a deal clincher

Good deals are totally relative. You could argue that the TV was a good buy at £599, so why even use a discount code at all? That's what this section of the site is really all about, paying the lowest price available, relative to the rest of the public.

I don't want a good price. I want the best price. And as it happens, I've ended up paying 5% more than others, so relatively speaking, I didn't get a good deal at all on this set.
