    Bumping this because I'm having the same problem too.
    Now I've just got black dots where the reading in big letters should be?

    Scratch that, we went back to the start and it's working now on ch2. But when I change the cost per kw it doesn't stay in, it just goes back to the 10.5p setting?
    The clock and thermometer are ok.

    The reason my display had the flashing line only (after tinkering with it) was because it had lost the connection with the sender box, I had to re-establish the link by pressing the button on the sender & the search button on the reciever display box (see back pages of the instruction book for the problem solutions).

    Owl kindly sent me these further instructions. (in sections due to this websites restrictions on the number of characters per post) ___1.

    SETTING UP THE OWL MONITOR
    When setting up an OWL the mode key should be used to move between menus/sub-menus and the set key used to enter into a menu/sub-menu or to confirm a change.
    To get out from menus/sub-menus use the mode key until you get to an END heading and press the SET key to take you up a menu or out of setup.
    Please note that stepping through the menu system using the SET key will eventually take you to CNTY where you would select UK, and then this would reset the unit to the factory settings
    SETTING TARIFFS
    Please note:- The OWL Monitor does not have tiered tariff functionality input/operation where the first number of kWh are at one value and everything else used is another.
    For a tiered tariff we recommend that you enter an average tariff value in Tariff 1, calculated from your typical billed kWh usage (monthly/quarterly) and assuming the following example then
    Total cost of kWh would be 210kWh @ 20.90p & 690kWh at 10.00p equalling £125.43. The average tariff value would be £125.43 divided by 900kWh giving 13.94p.
    The Tariff Alarm enables the user to set a cost value that if exceeded when a multitude of appliances (ie Washing Machine, Dishwasher, Tumble Dryer, Cooker, Electric
    Shower)are all in use and warns the user that their current spend is high. This is more beneficial to those people on Peak/Off-Peak Tariffs so that they minimise spend during peak tariffs. Continued.....next post.

    Press and Hold the Set Button to enter set up menu.
    COST should be displayed in the bottom RH of the display. Press SET key
    TAR1 will be displayed in main Display. Press SET key
    TIME will be displayed in main Display. Press MODE key
    RATE will be displayed in main Display. Press SET key
    Current rate value will be displayed in main Display, set each digit in turn using the ADJUST key and confirm by pressing the SET key
    PEAK will be displayed in main Display. Press MODE key (no need to be set with single Tariff)
    ALM will be displayed in main Display. Press MODE key
    END will be displayed in main Display. Press SET key
    TAR2 will be displayed in main Display. Press MODE key
    TAR3 will be displayed in main Display. Press MODE key
    TAR4 will be displayed in main Display. Press MODE key
    END will be displayed in main Display. Press SET key
    TIME should be displayed in the bottom RH of the display. Press MODE key
    DATE should be displayed in the bottom RH of the display. Press MODE key
    ACCU should be displayed in the bottom RH of the display. Press MODE key
    OTHER should be displayed in the bottom RH of the display. Press MODE key
