Tesco paying the price for greed?

What I am saying is that Sainsbury have always advertised their TTD range before advertising their Basics range. So when the Waitrose and M&S shoppers had to tighten their belts they bought TTD.
It's only in the last few months that we have seen a sainsbury advert showing their basic range.
Tesco on the other hand have always advertised their Value range before their "Finest" range so people will think of them as a discounter first.
As for the price shifting. All companies do it and all outlets do it.
Not every branch of Tesco/Sainsbury will sell every product at the same price at the same time. Some branches even stock different foods to others depending on the areas culture and purchasing habits.
This month they are advertising their Basic range as the main promotion to the "credit crunch".0 -
I don't believe in loyalty cards, I like to shop around. Tend to save more money that way I find.
We also shop around and we have loyalty cards with both Sainsburys and Tesco's. We don't shop much at Tesco's but do pick up one or two items that we see as genuine offers and also use the forecourt for petrol as you get loyalty points for this as well. Tesco's are currently doing double points for fuel. It's amazing how much you can generate through loyalty points over the course of a year. If as you say you like to shop around then I would assume you would use these two stores as well so it's worth having these loyalty cards that cost nothing to sign up to.0 -

I defected to Morrisons about 8 months ago, I have on occasion done a weekly shop in Tesco and noticed just how much more expensive it was. I dont go in there at all now, I use the Petrol station for the points, thats it.
Frozen meat etc I buy from Lidl, as well as Pop and some fruit and veggies etc0 -
Tesco's awful customer services has made me go to Sainsbury's.. much nicer food and you don't really pay that much more than any other supermarket.
Morrisons just makes me feel dirty..
That sums up Tesco's for me, you get the feeling that Tesco's only want you for your money which is true for all supermarkets of course but Sainsbury's make you feel welcome, Tesco's leave you feeling unwelcome. As for Morrison's, I don't find them dirty and quite like them as well.0 -
not sure if others have spotted this. I went to Tesco today and Heinz Baked Beans are now 2.49 for a 4 tin pack. I am sure about 2 months ago this was about 1.70. That makes it about a 50% price increase which they don't seem so keen to go on about0

Only trouble is, if they feel the pinch, they may start looking at areas to save money - like stopping MOC and DTD.
Then I would be feeling the pinch.
I don't think they'd dare. Lots of people only shop there because of DTD, clubcard deals etc. They would suffer a lot more with lost custom than they'd save IMO.
As for being greedy. Some things never change

Hmm, that's interesting. I wonder if our old friend Kevin Kelly was one of those affected?0 -

i am sorry but whilst i agree people rightly take advantage of DTD,it is hardly a reason for the majority to shop there. The same with MOC, it is a bonus but hardly a reason for making it your supermarket of choice.0 -
