Well, there's your problem! I wouldn't buy a computer from these, a glorified Radio Rentals outfit. TV yes, computer no!

    Go to Dell direct!
loads of problems with dell too. customer service is CR*P. know people who paid money online and dell took the money twice and didnt deliver the laptop for a month then delivered the laptop and denied taking the money twice, it took a while for my friend to get his money back and i am talking about nearly 2000K laptops, so they took about 4k, my friend was livid about their customer service. know others as well who bought from them and regretted it, hence i didnt even consider buying from them even if their laptops were cheap as chips (hypothetical situation). anecdotal experiences yes but i certainly wouldnt ever buy from them after seeing the problems my friends(a few of them) had with dell.

my last laptop (compaq) was from dsg (dixons airport) too on a sale. price was ok but about a year later the computer konked out but gave them a call and they promptly sent a courier to collect the laptop, entire motherboard had to be changed at no cost to me and they sent it back by courier without any hassles or me having to call them a second time. i was one of the few mugs who bought their extended warranties but it worked out in my favour because of the cost of the needed repairs. but this was 5y ago.

I got my pc from Dell in the summer of 2007, no problems and it was delivered very quickly.

My parents ordered a laptop from Dell last Tuesday.....it arrived on Friday and again absolutely no problems.
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.

I don't want to see Dell go, but nothing stays the same for ever in these industries. There's always someone faster, cheaper just around the corner.

Dell should have diversified in to other areas such as a software division (own-brand software), or with more forms of income generating online presence.

It had the resources, the brand, and could have made a real impact and become a major challenger to Microsoft, Yahoo, Google in one way or another.

This Dell PC (2004) is fine and I'm not trading up, or buying any fancy new tech, unless it really is revolutionary. And you have more hardware challengers like that Chinese pc maker Levono, who are also feeling the chill.
    January 08, 2009

To navigate the continuing recession, the world’s fourth-largest maker of PC’s today announced that it’s slashing about 2,500 workers, representing 11 percent of its workforce.

Officials at Lenovo, a Chinese company with U.S. headquarters in Morrisville, North Carolina, say they’re also reducing executive pay by 30 to 50 percent, including merit pay, long-term incentives and performance bonuses.
I'll move to Linux Ubuntu if this Dell pc won't support Windows 7. As far as I know, Dell are just a hardware player.

I've found DELL great. I like cheapish desktop computers and don't care about customer support. They're great for that.

  • i think it is very odd that they would take all three sites down for "maintainance" on the same day. They are still off line now.

    strange.

anyway, as i said before, i hope currys go bust. they are useless and deserve it.

    Curry's - terrible
    Dixon's - worse
PC World - please no. Their Customer Service manual was clearly written by a Ghengis Khan wannabe only without the humane side.

Yes, I'm sure every member of staff deserves to lose their jobs and struggle to support their family. In the same way your employer is useless and I hope you lose your job too! (except I would never wish that on anybody!!)

Its fair enough people dislike a company and would choose not to shop there again, but isn't that enough? Hoping everyone working for Currys lose their jobs and calling them all useless is offensive to say the least.

I do think some people on this forum lack respect at times

It's those same staff that make life a living hell for people who've handed over their savings for a faulty bit of crap that they weedle and whine out of making good for, despite their policies and the Sale of Goods Act. Diddums.
I'll have some cheese please, bob.

Yes because every member of staff has made peoples life hell, the only problems with SOGA in my store has been through customers wanting a better service than the SOGA provides. I think in every job/company there is useless staff, but to tar every store + staff with the same brush is rather ignorant.
