I've just mentioned this on another thread. I was trying to access broadband earlier today about 1/2 mile from their HQ. Couldn't get on line and had to use a GPRS mobile device to access net. I wondered whether there is some kind of technical fault with the phone network locally. I don't know how phone systems work at major companies or whether it is feasible, but thought I'd bring it up just in case it could be why.

Ironic considering how much they charge for Techguys.

Looks like they're about as competent as people think they are, even when they're the ones having problems!

I don't think they run their websites on a dialup connection
    :P
  • Guess they forgot to make a backup or a plan to revert in case it went a bit pear shaped.
    Everyone makes mistakes.

Could explain the website problem though ;)
Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.

Ouch, that will hurt their profits a bit...

To be able to send out the maintenance message they must have some kind of server running. I'm surprised there is not more info for such a prolonged down-time...
  • This doesnt make sense to me. Company like them would have and should have disaster recovery plan and the site would have come online by now. Their call centres can't access it either. Maybe something is going on. Who knows!

Shares are up today, so I doubt it's anything too sinister!

  • Actually, thinking about this a little more. When I have had to take a website I admin offline in the past I have put up a holding page.
Just a simple index.html to tell customers that they are still in business and not to panic would probably have been a damn good idea.
It would not take five minutes to do it either.

However, perhaps it's a question of authority. Certainly I only had to ask myself but in some IT places I've worked for big companies, the bureaucracy can be a nightmaare.

I imagine the Marketing dept is spitting frogs!

if it was anything disastrous (as some people have suggested they were going bust) it would have to be reported to the stock exchange I imagine.
