Tesco Energy Saving Lightbulbs 5 for 40p

Just for info I received free Philips Genies from my gas board a few weeks back. The one on the landing is only 8W and gives plenty of light - the Genie ones seem to come to full brightness very quickly and they are kinda cute almost attractive even. The 8W is very compact.0

Just got back from Tesco Cromwell Rd with plenty of 7, 11, 15 and 20watt BC & ES low energy sticks at 5 for 40p. They also had the more compact spiral BC, ES and small ES for buy 1 get 2 free @ £2. Thats 66p per bulb!0

You'll be changing them within 2 years...I've never had an energy saver that has lasted longer than that, despite the exaggerated claims on the boxes.
We took part in a local Energy Saving Survey back in 1992 and we still have some of the light bulbs from that! However, we have found that when buying lamps and matching energy saving bulbs from the likes of Ikea and Lidl?Aldi, they do not last anywhere near as long!Struggling too much wears a body out

I guess you are not readiing the website regularly, but are waiting until you get your email newsletter! Try bookmarking the web page and then check it more often. Regards............... :hello: :hello: :hello:0 -
I'll be snapping these up if I can find them, but only if I can find 100W equivalent ones, which are like gold-dust. My local B&S and Homebase only stock 60W equivalent in substantial numbers, which seems crazy - is the whole country slowly getting dimmer as people are forced to switch to 60W equivalent bulbs?
I also just went to view a new house, and they'd used downlighters almost everywhere, with no pendants. They hadn't used low-energy lightbulbs either, so it's going to have a low EPC rating and a pretty heavy annual electricity bill - and of course you can't find energy-saving replacement bulbs for downlighters or dimmers . . .0 -
trouble is you get what you pay for they are absolute rubbishliberty12640

Same thing happens to me and I CHECK my emails daily. I have missed out on Hotel deals because I get the email too late. How can we get it on the FIRST post?
Martin Lewis doesn't necessarily find all these bargains .. MSE'ers do and Martin links to them.
Check this site daily, maybe even a couple of times a day as offers crop up all the time. A new 'grabbit' may appear right after he has sent the emails and those who only read the email then visit have missed a weeks worth of opportunities.
Also, Martin can only fit so much into an email ... there is soooo much more on this site.0 -
Due to an error on the computer these are as stated actually 29p for five.
Be Quick before they realise.
Just got 10 for 58p.
They go through the till at £1 each, then the VAT is reduced on the FULL £10.
and only then is the discount is removed, resulting in the price of 29p not 40p for 5. :beer:ac's lovechild0 -

Oh, but you can!
Try these: http://www.homewatt.co.uk/
They have GU 10 low energy (Compact flourescent [CFL] and LED) downlighter bulbs amongst other things. Actually GU 10 low energy lamps aren't too difficult to find, but if you want them to match the colour of the tungsten ones (2700K) you do have to shop around. The homewatt ones are a pretty good match. Try googling [or whatever search engine] on 'GU 10 low energy' and you will be surprised just how many there are out there.
Also you can even get dimmable CFL lamps now, e.g.:

Of course none of these come in at 40p for 5 but, you can get them....0 -
Not sure I'd recommend the Tesco energy-saving bulbs... they take an age to heat up and produce some decent light.
I've got a couple of screw-in 60W equivalents and they barely glow at all for the first couple of minutes after being switched on... they do get steadily brighter but they are definitely not for a place where you want instant light.
