Tesco Energy Saving Lightbulbs 5 for 40p

Official MoneySavingExpert.com Insert

Tesco is offering five of its own energy saving lightbulbs for 40p. They normally retail at £1 each so this is a bargain and you should stock up while you can. The offer is on until 27 January in 800 of its stores as well as online at Tesco.

You can get 9w, 11w, 15w and 20w bulbs (equivalent to 40W to 100W old-style bulbs)

Energy saving lightbulbs last for approx. six years and according to the energy saving trust can save you up to £9 a year on your electricity bill.

Hi All

I just got back from Tesco's in northampton where I picked up some Energy Saving Lightbulbs they were on offer 5 for 40p
They were on a pallet stand near the front entrance they were selling quickly but plenty left.

Also I know a few people have posted about the price of chopped tomato's going up (value ones up to 33p I think?)
They also had on offer Tesco Chopped Tomato's with Garlic for 25p a tin.

I picked up 5 from Weston Favell, Northampton this afternoon. I will never need to buy any more !!!! I got the 20 Watt type & it states that it lasts 15 years. The cashier could not beleive as it first scanned at £2.50 before the reduction took place.

You'll be changing them within 2 years...I've never had an energy saver that has lasted longer than that, despite the exaggerated claims on the boxes.

Last time they had this offer on the lady at the checkout didn't believe me when I told her that they were 40p for five (total on the till said something over £10) so I went to grab the offer ticket from the shelf to prove it.

    No such problems this time.

This offer seems to be supported by EDF Energy by the way.

I had one in my old flat that had lasted almost 4 years, could still be going now to be honest as I left it in when I moved.

These are great value, but a pain for all my dimmer switches and touch sensitive lamps. If only I hadn't replaced all my ordinary bulbs when Homebase were selling energy savers at 5 for £1.50!
I think these will be more modern bulbs which are a lot better quality and longer lasting than some of the earlier models.

I just came on here to post this - I just bought 5 - the same kind I paid £2 for one in Morrisons last week.

    They actually cost 29p!!!!

The lady put it through as I wasn't sure if they were 40p or not - they came up as £5 and then it took of the vat (11p - does that seem right?) - anyway the subtotal was 29 p! Amazing!

ETA - this was in Camberley - they were in a stand but also priced up as 40p on the shelf.
  • Same here, just went round to me local Tesco Express in Portsmouth and grapped myself 10 of them! :j

Just came on here now to post the offer up but got beaten to it:p
