Can somebody actually list what this deal is? What should you actually get and how much is it?0

As far as I can see it is a deliberate attempt to get people to buy wine that isn't in the deal and then hope that they won't kick up a fuss but just pay for it.
I think you have it spot on, its been highlighted on this thread every £1 profit Tesco makes increases the staffs shares value its no wonder the staff are happy to let these obvious mistakes go unnoticed.0 -
am i the only one amazed by the comment about 'if they felt the customer was genuine'?
isn't that discrimination??
so if i came into your store with my best designer outfit on, hair done and lippy i have no doubt you would see me as a pleasent customer and sell me the deal, however i also know if i came in in my jeans, hoody and trainers with my baseball hat on after a sleepless night with my baby you'd see me as a scrounging low life and refuse!! this sort of attitude is pathetic, you have no idea about your customers and what sort of people they are just from the way they talk/look - think you need to go on some sort of training and lose your predjudices
also, what about all the customers doing £100+ weekly shops who have gone and picked up their 'any' bottle of wine and not noticed that they have been charged full price for EVERY SINGLE ITEM that should be included in the deal? i really dont think letting one customer have the deal while you then press on and remove all POS is hardly going to break the bank is it!?!0 -

This was my point exactly. The entertainment part comes from people who "roll up their sleeves" before coming into the store.0 -

I don't think that was what he meant. It's not discrimination based on your appearance. Every staff member has the right to refuse to serve a customer, if they're being unpleasent/aggresive etc, and it's a similar sort of thing. I've worked in shops, and I will freely admit that I am far more likely to go out of my way to help a nice, friendly customer than a rude one. I don't think it's a controversial thing to say - if you're friendly, you'll often get friendliness back, but if you're rude, people aren't going to be inclined to help you. The Boots thread is a good example of this - if you get the winning friendly sales assistant/friendly customer combo, you're more likely to get better deals.
And it seems with this offer that the nicer you are about it, and the more it seems to have been a genuine mistake that you picked up a 'wrong' bottle, the more likely you would be to still get it. Standing there with your arms folded with your £20 bottle, stamping your feet and shouting 'I can have any bottle, it says so!' before the cashier has even said hello probably isn't going to encourage them to help you out.0 -
" the more it seems to have been a genuine mistake that you picked up a 'wrong' bottle"
This is meaningless, since there is no such thing as "a wrong bottle". Any bottle is included. As for the customer making a genuine mistake, how can this be since he is merely, and intentionally, complying with the stated terms of the deal. He is not making a mistake, genuine or otherwise.0 -
timviola - I get that. I used inverted commas as I totally agree, there is no wrong bottle, really, I just meant, 'one which might get flagged up at the till', if you see what I mean.
I'm not trying to get into the ins and outs of this particular offer as I don't know how it works, but I was merely addressing we are always skint's point. Politely pointing out that the sign has no restrictions might get you further than kicking up a fuss - it's not a deal given based on how you dress/look.0
