Will 12 months free deals increase or decrease by month end?

May sound a daft question, but if anyone on here is on the inside who knows. Do mobile deals tend to get better or worse as the month progresses? Is the month end for bonuses worked out at the end of a calendar month or at another point?

I ask as I am waiting for a 12 month deal (as you do!) and wondered whether to go with a company I have not used before (eg Mobileshop) or wait to see if ones I have used previously without problems (Onestopphoneshop and CPW) bring out more offers either by the end of this month or wait until next month for new offers.

Many thanks

There are a couple of good 3 deals around at moment CPW have a matching policy.
    It pays to challenge
  • i just went to my local shop, and they said they are offering a 1p per month offer with 500 free x-net minutes on orange. They said i have to just pay 1p a month and then just downgrade the contract after 6 months

Is this feasible, or there are hidden catches ?
  • Deepaktailor. where & who is your local shop? why do you need to downgrade after 6 months? does the contract go price go up then?

sabelu. does that mean CPW will match deals you find at 3mobile shop & mobile outlet? as i think i would rather use them? & how do you contact them to match them? is it in shop or online?

    cheers paul
  • it was a shop in london i cant remember the exact name, and yeah they said you downgrade the contract to 90 minutes per month after 6 months, but the price is still free.

Is this a ligit deal ?

They basically put you on the highest mins/most commission tarrif that's where they make more money and give your more cashback, but it only works out cheaper if you downgrade after six months to the lowest tarrif possible so you won't get many mins.
I wouldn't go for this type of deal cos you get six good months and six bad months if you are going to use the phone alot

Talkworldonline used to offer similar deals, relying on you dropping tariff after 6 months. They have recently started promoting on the basis that they do not rely on you dropping tariff - free for 12 months (without pointing out that they were one of the few companies who did rely on this previously ;) ).

  • Network bonuses are per calendar month. Some of the online dealers often introduce a few good deals during the last few days of each month but not so many to make it entirely obvious. Two online dealers introduced a couple of new 12m free deals yesterday. At the moment there are tons of deals available with 12 months free, probably more now than there have ever been...

On 3 there's the MOS-1 and the LG U8330 (although stock shortages on the LG) both with 12 months free on Video Talk & Text 700 (12m).

    On O2 you can get a SE K700i, K300i, Motorola V220 pink, Motorola L6, Nokia 3120, 6020, 6030, Siemens CL75 Poppy or SF65.

    On Orange; Siemens CL75, C72, Nokia 3120, 6030, SE K300i or Motorola L6.

As well as cash back also consider some of the free PSP deals instead (save having to worry about cash claims). The Siemens CL75 Poppy is free with a free PSP plus £90 cash back on Orange Your Plan 200 - one of the best selling deals anywhere so far this week along with the MOS-1 and Motorola L6 12m free deals.

As for considering Mobileshop over Onestop/CPW. I would defo recommend it. Mobileshop are one of the best online dealers for customer service and for awarding hassle free cash back. I've never had any complaints about them but regularly hear bad words about OSPS. Mobileshop's 12m free and PSP offers are a bit limited though so you'll need to search around for most of the deals listed above.

There are quite a few but many/most are offered by companies that do not appear to have a track record (eg phoneboxdirect.com, themobileoutlet, mobilerainbow, etc) which makes you a little wary as they may not be around in 4/8/12 months (or whatever the length of deal) to pay up. That said, every company has to start somewhere so I don't know at what point people take the risk.
