At my wits end with Halifax......UPDATED (and advice wanted)

thank you for replying. I had never missed nay payment to any of my creditors but due to health problems knew that my financial situation was going to change drastically. I did what I thought was a responsible thing and contacted a debt management company two months before I missed any payments!! I then managed to pay a further payment allowing for agreements to be reached between the DMP and creditors. So in fact, the creditors may have received a reduced payment for the past three months, but they have not had any missed payments.
I can only sympathise with people who do have missed payments because the stress that I feel MBNA has put me under is unbelievable.Did: 5/9/17. Total repaid £70000!!!!!:T

Unfortunatly I also found out the hard way that being "responsible" and contacting you creditors as soon as you realise you aren't going to be able to keep up the payments is sometimes the very worst thing you can do.
If I had let my accounts go into arrears before getting help Halifax would have sent the account to a DCA months and months ago and I wouldn't be getting charged as much.0 -
thankyou Looby75. Can you explain why in the threads people want their accounts to go to a DCA? I thought this would be the last thing that was required. Sorry - but a newbie and dont understand everything yetDid: 5/9/17. Total repaid £70000!!!!!:T

The reason I and others want their debt to be passed on to a DCA is that in the vast majority of cases it means all interest and charges are stopped on the debt. Also once a payment plan is set up with the DCA that's usually the end of the constant phone calls and nasty letters. Most DCA (but not all) are a bit easier to deal with and if they can see your efforts to pay them back are real then they are usually quite understanding (or so I've been told, fingers crossed its true)0 -
Mainly to stop the interest and charges. In Halifax's case because the DCA is nicer.Barclaycard 3800

HALLELUJAH
At long long last my account has been passed over to Blair, Oliver and Scott :j :j :j
Maybe now, after over 2 years of being on a dmp and owing even more than I did when I started the plan, I might actually be able to start paying back the debt rather than them just racking up the charges.
Will still take me another 8 years0 -

Glad to hear it. Now that you are free of them, might it now be time to start applying to get the charges refunded - or have you already done so?0 -

no not yet, I didn't want to risk doing anything that might have made them try and delay passing my account on. Thats going to be my next step
Yes indeed. No harm in having a little rest before the next stage. It looks like it will be ages before the banks start settling (if indeed they ever do) anyway.
You go girl. Take 'em to the cleaners. And when you get the money back eventually, try using it for F & Fs and getting shot of all the debt.
Great eh? Use a bank's unfair charges refund money to cheaply buy off other creditors. Sounds like a pretty good business plan0
