At my wits end with Halifax......UPDATED (and advice wanted)

thats what i said in my previous post why dont you ask them? mine was reduced automatically in november:mad: sometimes my debt panics me..... EVEN after 4 years or so.
I will be free in less than three years with a trust deed - my only option as debt management was taking too long0 -
I've been on my DMP for almost 2 years. Like yourself my Halifax credit card debt was only frozen for one year (which surprised me no end). When I got the letter telling me that the agreemant had ended I rang them, explained that our situation money-wise was now worse (I've become a stay-at-home dad) they reduced the interest to a fairly low amount and stopped the phonecalls. This was over 6 months ago. I've not had a call since, but neither has my account been passed onto a DCA even though I was told it would be after being 6 months in arrears. Maybe it's their way of earning more money through the interest.
As an aside, has anyone noticed how many cards now seem to be run by Barclaycard ? I managed to clear my Barclaycard debt several years ago, but now find that they own/run the Goldfish and Sky cards.
They did take over from Goldfish last September/October I think. I didn't know they had taken over other brands too. I hardly use the Barclay/Goldfish account anyway. I sometimes get bills for as much as a tenner but pay these off each time. I only use it for my override phone bill and a regular small payment to store files on the internet.
I don't include this account in my debts due to this.0 -
I'm already making "token" payments, my minimum payment each month should be about £60 but I only pay £15 through the DMP, they still won't send the debt on to the DCA though. They just keep saying I'm not in enough arrears
Speak to your DMP company and ask them if they could possibly just do the next couple of Halifax payments for £1 instead of the minimum you are doing now. Sounds drastic, but from my understanding doing this for a month quickly gets the balance shifted on to their (in-house) DCA and then the interest can't be piled on.0 -
Change your phone number that stops the calls dead.
We found the only way to stop Halifax charging was to stop paying them and refuse to start again till it was passed over. it took a couple of months but eventually they took the hint and move it to Blair Oliver Scott. Which was great for yearsthen its all gone tits up again but thats another story.Barclaycard 3800

sorry I missed that bit
I wonder why they reduce some peoples automatically but not other's
no clue what so ever as they told my DMC in october by letter than they agreed to the payments offered and they also agreed to freeze interest but this obv wasnt the case when the bill came in and this is when DMC called them and they said they dont offer the same thing twice so they cant freeze the interest again though this box was ticked but what they have done is reduce the interest as low as then can:mad: sometimes my debt panics me..... EVEN after 4 years or so.

Hi. I would complain to the chief executive of Halifax - or someone very high up - I am sure you can find that info somewhere on the web.
I would also look at the OFT guidlines and consider reporting them to the OFT/Financial Ombudsman/Trading Standards etc - whichever is most appropriate.
Good Luck

I am glad that you wrote about this Looby as we might have the same problem with the idiots
We had to reduce our DMP payment recently and I have also sent off ppi reclaim letters (have I stirred the nest?:D ) . Halifax got 40 odd quid, we had a statement through today and it had a reduced rate of interest on it for £37!!!
We are desperately trying to clear our debt but with tactics like this then what is the point? We might aswell throw our money down the drain for all the good it will be doing now. We were stupid with money before but not now!
I have had it with being all nice to these creditors to stay away from the courts but what is the bloody point? You could be on a dmp for a year or two and they could start slapping interest on which wipes out your payments in two months or so making you back at square one. Being on a DMP the creditors still reserve their right to charge interest etc
I am really angry that they have done this, they have already increased the debt by a few hundred since we started our DMP. I am starting not too care about ccj's I really don't but what I do care about is the fact we are in debt and we are working our damn hardest to get out of it slowly and the creditors don't seem to give a shiit.
I would rather give them a £1 and use the extra money to pay towards a debt that the creditor has stopped interest on to pay that quicker. I chose to go on a DMP as I thought it would be the best way to show we have been silly with money and want to pay it back but there is no way I will continue to throw money that we have worked hard for to be eaten up in interest by these greedy  Not anymore! no way
I too will phone CCCS on Monday, Halifax will be dropped to a £1 until they pass it on to a DCA or taken off altogether. I will probably have to take on the DMP myself. I don't care about ccj's, they are not that bad if your credit rating is shot to pieces and being on a dmp doesn't stop any creditor taking you down that route.
It could be the only way to solve this
Please let us know how you get on with CCCS on Monday and I'll do the sameDMP support thread member 211 :cool:I'm only here to get some medals......honest!0 -
Toffee, I could have pretty much written your post word for word because that is exactly how I feel at the moment too
Good luck on monday, I'll let you know how I get on.0
