Ive only just discovered this post,so a quick question,
Does £2480 sound like a reasonable price for 2 adults and a 12yr old traveling to New York, early July from Glasgow via Heathrow and staying at The new yorker? for 7 nights(-or £2600 for the hilton new york.)...
I have no idea how much a holiday to NY should cost,I realy realy want to go,other 2 did want to go but are now looking at 2 weeks AI in the sun for less money,
so is it reasonable to expect a family of 3,for 7nights,in July to pay aprox £2500?,or is that a good deal.thanks.x
    Slimming World..Wk1,..STS,..Wk2,..-2LB,..Wk3,..-3.5lb,..Wk4,..-2.5,..Wk5,..-1/2lb,Wk6,..STS,..Wk7,..-1lb.
Week 10,total weightloss is now 13.5lbs Week 11 STSweek 14(I think)..-2, total loss now 1 stone exactly
    GOT TO TARGET..1/2lb under now weigh 10st 6.5(lost 1st 3.5lbs)
  • well me, my OH and my dad went for 3 nights, 4 days end of nov - dec, and we paid £1500 total, so £500 each which we thought was a great deal and we stayed in the Wellington hotel, great location.

Where did you get that price?
I booked mine from Expedia. Have you tried them?
  • I can't wait. Me and my mother are spending 3 nights in New York after visting my uncle in Texas.
We're actually staying in a hotel in Long Island City, which we got for a good price. I'm not expecting much from the hotel since I only really plan on spending the night and breakfast in it. So much to see and so much to do. We arrive on Saturday evening and leave Tuesday evening. So we have Sunday and Monday and up til about 3pm on the Tuesday when we have to go to the airport.

Any ideas what the best sights to see are in a short time? The only 3 things I really really want have to do is Ground Zero/WTC museum, Top Of The Rock and run round Central Park (we love running so we'd be stupid not to!). And obviously some shopping :D

Hi there, I think its a reasonable price to pay for 7 nights works out £826ish each. I payed £700pp ( Inc flights) for 5 nights staying at the New Yorker 'double double' room in November so for 2 nights more i'd say that price was fine.

Have you been on money supermarket? Check that you cant get the new yorker cheaper on any other websites ( website will look for you if you put in hotel name and dates) I managed to get New Yorker about £300 cheaper on an upgraded room by looking on money supermarket.
New York ♥..........These street will make you feel brand new, Big lights will inspire you.
No place in the world that can compare ♥ 2nd October 2010 ♥

Whilst you are at Ground Zero, pop across the road to Century 21, it can be quite manic though but you can grab some great bargains.

Ice skating whilst you are in Central Park is a MUST. I loved it and Top Of The Rock is amazing at night, and the lifts are great in that building, keep looking up:D

Statue of Liberty for me was something i wouldn't visit again, qeued for about 3 hours and it was like 'ok there she is, right let's get back now':rotfl:
And if you can go and watch a show on Broadway, i went to watch The Jersey Boys (based on Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons) and it was brilliant.

I need to work out my US clothes size now ;)
Forgot to mention that it's early June when I'll be there :o So I guess ice skating is out :D
I could take the free ferry and see the SOL from distance. Not too fussed over her to honest!

    Oooh Broadway show. Good idea.

    Thanks for the ideas!

Help...i have read hundreds and hundreds of pages on the new york threads.
I had booked The staybridge suites - Times square for beginning of march but the hotel is not opening until april this year. This suits me ok as I Had kind of changed my mind on the hotel anyway.apparently not great for the tube stations etc.
bearing in mind Times Sqaure is a no no to stay, can anyone advise me ?
first timers in New york and want to do the shops, sight seeing and see central park, T.o.t.r. and ground zero.
what area or zone should i be looking at ? want to be near a tube station for easy travel. Is that "Penn station" then i should be looking at ?
I'd be grateful for any advise, and hotels
New yorker hotel seems recommended quite alot on here....
was thinking maybe Intercontintenal at the barclay ?

    Mortgage-free Glee!
Nothing wrong with Times Square it wont bite. You will find times square mad manic slightly overpriced alot of commercialised places to eat lots of flashing lights but it wont do you any harm (bit like going to London and passing through Piccadilli Circus ) Some great photo shots from TS you are very central to all your big touristy hot spots Parks -Grand Central-Macys-TOtR-ESB-MoMA-MSgardens-Broadway-Chrysler-Flatiron a bit further (Ground Zero-Statue of Liberty- Brooklyn (bridge) c21 A&F south seaport are all Downtown so a bus or tube or cab away . Better foodies UWS-UES and SoHo IMO FWIW AFAIK
New Yorker is Iconic and has been upgraded recently but ive never stayed there but i would. Rooms are small (ive heard) and not much to do around area (ive heard) but close to ESB MSG and Macys and a cab or tube rid efrom everywhere . Price is reasonable for 7days just try to get any free upgrades on plane or gaff if you can to make it extra special enjoy NYC , look up hotels on trip advisor . most have honest reviews
 hard as nails on the internet . wimp in the real world
