Is it colder here in UK or in new York in february?? I'm getting worried with all this snow here lol x

depends i suppose on many things
I went in Feb 07 and i have never felt cold like it ever.
Was -millions in the air.(had to wait 2 hours to defrost the doors on touchdown) -17 at JFK when we landed and mostly -4or -5 in central NYC but the windchill factor hurt like a slap in the ear with a frozen football. Dont think looking from your heated hotel room at a sunny landscape it looks ok i did this and went for breakfast in my normal jumper and leather jacket and was good along the sunny side of 8th ave . Until i turned down a street where it had been in the shade since about 1932,I am a grown man but was almost crying with cold within 3minutes. Take layers with you and a thick coat . The main problem is wrapping up so well as soon as you enter a heated shop it all want to come off . Enjoy NYC.

We went Dec 08 - 26th Dec - 2nd Jan, mentally we were prepared for the worst weather wise..when we landed surprisingly was warmer than the uk!! and for the next four days or so there was a mini heatwave (spring like weather) lol people were walking round with t shirts on!! And all the woolies we had were not really needed... until
Roll on New Years eve and it snowed!! (central park was beautiful!) :j Wow so cold!!
And apparently that NYE was one of coldest Times square had ever seen! Snow didnt really settle, so were able to leave ok..

Strange but really lovely weather - all of it!

Recommend layers and more layers just in case!
  • We were there the beggining of December, the 1st 2 days were really warm no coat needed just a thick jumper, even the locals were joking it was more like florida. However the next 2 days were freeeezing and they had the 1st snowfall of the winter. I agree you need to take layers its cold outside but the shops and restaurants are very cosy warm. also you can walk along one road its ok but turn the corner and the wind blows like the artic.
My mind tends to wander............If found please return;)

    I can spell...................I just cant type:confused:

Quick heads up if anybody is looking for a bargain hotel in NY over the next few months - I have just got the Holiday Inn Downtown for less than £60 per night (bid amount £47)! It is on Priceline, from looking on BetterBidding there seem to be lots of dates available. It is only 3* but gets pretty decent reviews.

I'll post more info later if anybody needs it - just need to sleep off my hangover first! :-)

thats a good deal for a decent hotel . Centrally located for most of NYC inc Brooklyn . Not in too touristy area but a bus or easy tube away . Good food and decent proper NY boozers (some fake irish pubs sround there but there is everywhere) I am a holiday inn worldwide priority club member and i cannot match that price or get near to with any discount i can find from holiday inn.
    more info please

That's why I like it, I don't do touristy ... my least fave place in NY is Times Square! ;)

Are you familiar with Priceline bidding? If not, look up blindman's guide to it, or have a look at www.betterbidding.com.

The hotel is showing up on Hotwire for various dates (throughout the year) for around $95 + taxes. However, BetterBidding showed Priceline wins for $80 per night in Feb, and $74 in April.

Using the www.priceline.co.uk site I initially bid £45 for 3* in the Downtown-Soho zone and got declined, so I added another zone and went to £47 (which equates to $75) ... and got a result! Now what I did was risky (I was drunk :o ), in that in adding another zone there was a small chance I would be allocated another hotel, and there are plenty of 3* hotels in NY that I would not stay at. If I was doing it again I would go straight it at £47 to avoid the risk.

If that doesn't make sense (my fault, doing three things at once), I'll summarise:

$75 or £47 bid for 3* in the Downtown-Soho zone should* get you the HI Downtown. :T

    * Quick caveat - there are never any guarantees on Priceline, and availability could run out very quickly! ;)

Is the holiday inn downtown 3 star ? thought its advertised as 4*
good deal though i know how price line works but never used it better bidding ive read about and understant the way it works. As a dad of a lad in a wheelchair i have to be a little bit more carefull how i book my/our breaks but it works in a way that i could be in the next room to you paying double the price . for the mr tourist this is the way travel should be exploited to bring out the empty rooms and such lowering all prices in all hotels around all the world, enjoy your stay and a full report on return

I was there on them dates too, and i had to carry my coat because i was so warm, it was lovely and when we got back to the UK, OMG it was freezing, i wanted to turn around and go straight back:rotfl:

My sister has been if Feb though a few years back and it was snowing and she said it was freexing, but lets face it the cold we are having here now can't be much worse over there (can it?)
