Has anyone seen any movie shoots or even bumped into anyone famous in NYC? In all the years I certainly have seen my fair share of movies being filmed and many famous faces... (I just love movies.. :) )
DS3 managed to charm the widow of a famous economist in the lobby of her apartments. He was trying to find a guitar shop which patently wasn't where he was convinced it was, and the security chap wasn't THAT impressed by him asking about it in this block of apartments, but she started chatting to him and recommended a very good guitar shop elsewhere.

Turns out that the address we'd found was probably the home address of somebody who wrote a guitar instruction book at some point. Google has a lot to answer for.

Stayed here last year and its the best hotel i have ever stayed in Great location in the middle of everything. The higher your room the better (we were on 41st floor)lobby fantastic lifts zoom neat little cocktail bar , On the complex with E-Walks (multiscreen cinema and bowling etc) shulas restaraunt beautiful steaks and b b kings blues bar who have super shows on day and eve, over the rd from times square and madame tussauds. As it is expensive you get what you pay for and some/ beds/ bathroom /bathrobes
all luxury we had two rooms on different sides both fantastic views.staff cleaners porters all very helpfull and imo after studying for a few weeks our choice based on location /family/wheelchair user/fairly big budget was the right one. We flew Delta to JFK good flight good plane efficient air stewards
We stayed at the Westin,Times Square back in October 2008.It was our first visit to NY but we were really impressed. On arrival we got upgraded to a better room and ended up on the 43rd floor ,with a great view of the Empire State.
The area around the hotel is really busy at night but there are lots of to see.Travelling around was so easy even though SWMBO wouldn't go on the subway si we just used the bus service. There is a up town bus stop just outside the hotel.
Food wise there are lots of nice diners nearby,we used one on jct of 9th ave and 42nd street. We had a really good breakfast for three for about $15 dollars, which included juices and even a smoked salmon bagel. For evening meals we just used google and searched for fixed price menus for before 19.00hrs.We paid roughly $25 a head for three courses.

This is why i like TriBeCa, or anywhere NOT near Times Square. $5 for a juice and a bagel, even with smoked salmon on, is really just daylight robbery.

Ignore the smoked salmon, but i used to get a juice, coffee, cream cheese bagel, and a sausage bacon egg in a roll, for $5 last year!

P.S I need to go get my morning coffee...

Hey its a pretty cool place and mad as hell. It makes us British look very tame!
I have to say my guiltiest pleasure has to be eggs, eggs, bacon, pancakes, maple syrup, eggs, large coffee's, mmmmm. I was so sick by the end of the holiday and had to breath in to the point of passing out to do my jeans up. Thankfully I have now got back to my normal size and feel sick at the sight of a pancake!

Mark you must go to the slipper room! Everyone must! Its such an experience! I thought I was quite open minded until I saw their late show, I felt so prim and proper and rather shocked! Its not for the faint hearted.

Becky- I think I was approached on the subway due to the fact I had a butterfly painted on my face, I stood out like a sore thumb. I honestly thought no one would blink in New York but I did get approached quite a lot, and sung to on two occasions! Oh and if you make me go jogging in the morning on our group trip ill cry and vomit on your shoe. :p

Leeds I go out dressed like this:

Trust me I draw attention :D:D:D

Ooo a butterfly I want one...

No I wont make you run - but it totally works in curing hangovers...and I've vomited outside big ben before (twice actually :o) due to being so hung over on a run I oculdn't actually stand!!

Marky - Yep coffee in NY is good - althouh NY friend insists on Starbucks - yuck :o - I did manage to discover a great little place down by the bookstore off union square :D:D, right I'm off to get mine actually...I wonder if I can find a salmon bagel anywhere mmmmm

    Mortgage-free Glee!
Its not the coffee with me its the Place we stopped at a place just south from Magnolia Bakery(5 minutes walk) called "the black dog" for a Coffee and a bite to eat. It was minus 4 and freezing outside we had walked since early morning after the flight the day before. We walked into the heat and rich coffee smell sat down and almost cryed with relief.Ordered coffee /shakes for the kids and a chicken sub. Mrs Face was asleep within minutes and they brought food over and a huge pillow for her great place but i have tried to find it a few times without luck.
 hard as nails on the internet . wimp in the real world

tough one really, as there are so many good places for coffee..

i swear by the small deli's to be honest, as the locals go there, so the coffee is normally top notch!

Mmmmm coffee, running, shops, nightlife, beers, friendly people - frankly could NY get any better??

    Suggestions to improve NY anyone??

Maybe give the subway a lick of paint and an oyster/octopus style touch in/out system rather than the silly swipy thing??

OMG, how can you suggest something like that... it's only been about 8 years since they got rid of the token to use the NYC Subway, and there was such an uproar when they did that..

and there is always an uproar when they up the prices!!!!
