Amy - you can book before but you'll need to provide the number 72 hours before you fly, it takes 5 mins online and you get approved instantly and it emails you a number, ESTA is part of the wavier programme - if you pass it just means you are eligible for a VISA wavier.
they don't e-mail....0 -
They emailed mine in January - maybe because it wasnt properly up and running then...cant remember about April
I've never needed it after that point though weirdly...it is a strange website/concept really - I wonder if they will get rid of the green forms in the end...0 -
I'm sorry but I really dont agree with 'taking the tags off' if you want to buy over £340 worth of stuff then pay the ruddy duty on it!!!
£340 is more than the amount of spending money on my whole last NY holiday - if you've got that kind of cash to flash more than that around on jeans, bags or whatever then you should pay the tax on it!
£340 is less than I normally take as spending money, but I spend my money on food and booze.. I don't go shopping like mad... I'm budgeting about £200 worth of blu ray movies this time around, so i'm under budget, and might even treat myself to a new pair of jeans.. under the amount, no duty to pay, etc.0 -

Thank youim all excited now
the flights I have found are for september and are £330 cheapest I can find so I wanted to know before I booked
thanks again xx0 -
You can book your flights before, but as it only took me 30 seconds to do an ESTA, get it sorted now.... you'll need your passport number as a minimum, the information on your flights, and accommodation can be added in at a later date.. DO NOT LOSE THE ESTA AUTH NUMBER.... print it out, twice, write it down, twice.. .;)
Markymoo thank youil print it out loads of times
hehe

Well.. ain't you special.... they say on the website that they don't e-mail anything nowadays, and i did mine in Feb, ready for my March holiday.
You don't NEED it, as it is ELECTRONIC. when the nice Immigration person swipes your passport, they can tell that you have one, and will compare the info you've written on your green form, (address, flight etc) to what you have on your ESTA. So.. if you've not updated it, they might quiz you a bit.
so yeah, keep it updated, and make sure you renew after the 2 year validity, and maybe, eventually, if the system works, those green forms will be a thing of the past!

You do need the number to be able to access it again... i've got mine stored in my 1password software, so it never goes anywhere...
....
i'd just reapply to be honest.. it might even just retrieve your original details when you try... i dunno0 -
Right ok thanks, Im sure ive got nothing to worry about so I'll just reapply and see what happens. I need to get some ink for my printer so once I do I will give it a try.
