Oh, hello! Just discovered this thread and had a read, some really useful information so huge thanks to all contributors from a NYC virgin! :)

I'm trying to plan a trip to the city for myself, OH's sister and OH's mum. OH has family in Maine, so the female members will be coming down to stay with us in New York for 4/5 nights. OH's sis is a teacher, so we need to go within school holidays. We initially thought Christmas, but I'm reconsidering because it's more expensive, Christmas is an expensive time regardless of a trip to New York, and I'll have less time to save some spending money!

So we're now thinking of Feb half term. What do you seasoned New Yorkers think? Is it worth the extra money to go at Christmas (which I can imagine is magical) or will it be just as good in Feb? Also, will it be colder in Feb than Dec (as it is over here) or are they about the same?

Thanks for any help and apologies if my question has already been asked and answered!
  • This site has some great recommendations in terms of pros and cons for each month in New York. Some great advice about visiting the city generally actually - not that I'd like to take anything away from this great thread too!#

Edit - can't post links but google "New York City Month by Month"!

I bit the bullet and booked my cheapish flight by the way. Can't wait now!

Hi, I just wanted to introduce myself on here. I've lurked on this board for a while now and thought it was about time I started posting.

I'm pretty well experienced with NYC, been 4 times with 5th book in September. I hope I can help put here with anyone's inquiries.

I've booked to stay in the Hampton Inn SoHo this time. It's new hotel, been open less than a year. It has almost entirely positive reviews on Trip Advisor and the price was very nice. Has anyone here stayed there, would like to here what you thought of it?

I wanna go back to NYC next september, i've heard the Foo Fighters are playing @ MSG for the "concert for peace" Id like to go for 7 days/nights, last time i went for 5. Wouldnt mind staying near where i did last time (57th st) but want to see more of NY than i did before. When would be the best time to book flights, and is it cheaper to book flights and accom seperatly??
