it is a tourist trap, but it's that area that makes me feel I'm in new York. I have stayed in Chelsea before, and in various other areas. They are great, but for me it has to be Times Square everytime...
Its the opposite for me, stayed in Times Square the first time, then in Greenwich Village the second time, and in the Village, I felt so much more that I was staying in New York, with all the locals around, rather than thousands of tourists everywhere.A cloudy day is no match for a sunny disposition~ William Arthur Ward ~0 -
i agree with LouBlue... the real new york is everything but the flashing lights and tourists...0

Quackers, we took 3 teenagers to the Cosmo, and they gave us rooms opposite each other, which was fine. Only problem was two of them had to share a bed, but they got used to it ...
Have a fantabulous time!
PS and hotelconxions let me make a booking for 5 once I'd penetrated further into the system: the first screen gave the impression that I'd only be able to book for 4, so don't discount it because there are lots of you!
actually, you could book 2 rooms with 1 person in, and still all go along, as long as you don't exceed the amount of people in the room.. mainly on the basis of that all the rooms on hotelconxions are sold per room, not per person..
look at the costs of booking for 1 person or 3 people in the same room.. it'll be identical!

But do check how many beds in each room: you'd have to be very friendly to get 3 in a double bed, IMO.Signature removed for peace of mind0

I dont need to worry anymore.
I just cancelled my 7 flights.
My 14yr old and his 3 kids all kicked off about having to share beds.
So we are not taking them.
I dont want an ungrateful 14yr old - i've had more attitude in 24hrs that i have in 14yrs so she's staying at home. Big short sharp shock to the system I hope - nothing else is working at the moment.
It would have been a lot of walking for Simone to cope with so she's happy to stay at home.
My boyfriends kids are now going to their mums.
Now its a cosy trip for 2.
How much can something change in 24hrs!!!!!Sometimes it's important to work for that pot of gold...But other times it's essential to take time off and to make sure that your most important decision in the day simply consists of choosing which color to slide down on the rainbow...0 -
Lower East Side is where all the action is!!!!!
Absolutely backed 100%, just booked our usual apartment in the LES for October this year for 10 days over Halloween. We went in the parade last year with some friends from Queens and had a ball, OH was even interviewed by a local TV channelbetter order our costumes for this year.
I doubt we will even pass through Times Square while we are there, just doesn't do it for me. Now the Brooklyn Bridge, thats NYC for me always gives me goosebumps looking back at Manhattan and out into the bay.
The UES and UWS don't hold much appeal for me either as everywhere is pricy and you don't seem to find as many hidden gems for bargain food, apart from Sassy SlidersHarlem is great too, great food up towards 142nd.
Each to their own though, its one of those cities where there is something to suit everyone, thats why i love it so much0 -
I think the truth is if you go often you see more to any city than the bright lights and you get to know the back alleys and the good areas. We dont do Paris without the Tor Effiel or Arc / Champs Elysees off our radar. Rome /London /Moscow/Wakefield (sorry)No exception.I would recommend Times Square to every one that enters Manhattan but not at all costs. We went to ground zero (felt we had to)It was a building site. I knew it would be it was what we expected but we had to see it.Century 21 was also very disappointing too. Traveling through the less mentioned districts in Manhattan was more grounded better bargains and nice people not tourists. (flat iron & Tribeca eg)Flat iron building doesnt get the praise it deserves as things to see in New York beautiful and stunning and iconic.
L.E.S edges it for (what you get when you open the curtains) but as other areas are within a mile or so there really is no problem getting to a place you know from a place where you have a good deal in a hotel. hard as nails on the internet . wimp in the real world :cool:0 -
