I've just booked a hotel in NY with the employees discount thing on the other page.. and it states in my confirmation email 'total estimated price', and mentions something about tax at 15% per night. My nightly rate is $120 odd, which means over 4 nights it only works out about $70 extra dollars, which is fair enough I guess.

now there are some hotels that you PREPAY, then all taxes are included, but if you're going for a rate, that is a POSTPAY, then taxes are NOT included.
This is correct, if you find a deal on Expedia that requires full payment upfront before you travel then taxes are included. That was certainly the case for us when we went in January and it turned out to be a very good deal (don't forget you can get Quidco cashback as well and some Nectar points if you collect them).0 -
Are you 100% sure about this?
Damn, i probably missed out on that offer now.0 -
I booked a 11 day trip to usa on saturday of which staying 7 nights in new york.
To search for what i thought were the best deals i used travel supermarket.
Having decided on thirty thirty hotel 7-14 sept it came up with 1800 hotels as the best deal at 1085.00 pounds sterling total. 500 pounds sterling cheaper than quoted direct by the hotel.
So we booked 7 nights at thirty thirty via 1800 hotels.com for £1085.
However yesterday i found it on quikbook.com for $1264 usd dollars approx: £780 pounds sterling.
1800hotels.com have a price promise if you logde a claim within 24hrs, which i did. However 1800hotels have responded saying they will not refubd the 300.00 pounds stering difference as quikbook is in another currency.
Here are the rules

Ok, really upset here, please help
I came this close <> to booking on expedia last night (1am actually). £699 for 5 nights in september including flights at the Wyndham Garden Times Square.
Then i re read for the hundreth time the itinerary page and the small print under the hotel details.
"The price you selected DOES NOT include any applicable service fees, charges for optional incidentals (such as minibar snacks or telephone calls) or regulatory surcharges. The hotel will assess these fees, charges and surcharges upon check-out."
Im taking this that I will be hit for occupancy tax @14.25% per day plus whatever else New York State wants to charge on top.
I phoned expedia just now to enquire and they said normally what I pay them includes these taxes, but to be sure I should PHONE THE HOTEL MYSELF!!!! How could they not know?
I dont even think phoning the hotel would guarantee not paying extra on top. This is some offer through expedia that they wouldn't have any knowledge of and is far cheaper than their actual room rate.
Any ideas please.
thanks
David
I was just about to book with Expedia so I'm very happy that I read your post, thank you
I have a sister in law living in New York so up until now I haven't had to pay out for a hotel.
This year I am travelling with a friend and 2 children. A girls trip
I'm finding the selection of hotels mind boggling  I have read thru the thread many times, but I'd still appreciate some help please.
We would like to travel from Heathrow on May 29th 2010 and return June 2nd. I would prefer a late aftenoon flight going out and an overnight flight coming home therefore arriving back at heathrow on the 3rd.
I see BA has a sale at the moment, cheapest flight takes us into Newark at 22.35 which I think is too late.
Would I be better off booking a package? We need 2 rooms and have a max spend of £650 p/p for flights and room, £2600 total
Thanks in advance:j:j:j:j0 -
I keyed in your details into the Intercontinental Hotel F+F Discount page, and came back with the Staybridge Suites (where I'm staying) in Times Square.
Two studio suites with queen beds for the total time is £699 altogether, then just finding your flights should be easy.
Just looked for flights, Heathrow to JFK, with BA, good flight times comes out at £1272, so that plus rooms is £1971, much cheaper than you thought

Here's the link to the F+F for the hotels

Can get some good savings there, the Staybridge Suites are half a mile from Broadway and Times Square, so really near to everything that you would want to go to
Let us know how you get on
