But many hotel 'suites' do have what you're looking for, Ally, not necessarily a hob / cooker but at least a microwave. That, I think, is the word to look for when doing hotel searches.
That's if you can't get into the Radio City Apartments. They were fully booked earlier than I started looking for my booking.Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
Thank you Costing
Do the rooms not have cookers/hobs?
Hi-sorry, no cookers or hobs. saying that, you can order in (i know you arent keen on too many takeways) but there is a great bagel shop next door which does fab massive salads and there is a tex mex place there as well. plus, five min walk away is a good deli with eat in and takeway options.
my review for embassy suites is on tripadvisor under maryios which sets out all the plus points of a suite hotel if you are interested. good luck with your search.0 -
this is the thing with new york.. you have every cuisine imaginable on the island of manhattan, and lots of places deliver.
Failing that, you have deli's on virtually every corner, where you can get sandwiches, rolls, salads, the most amazing soups, noodles etc..
pizza is a stable diet in NYC, and again, plenty of places where you can get a slice, or a pie..
People who live in NYC eat out more than they eat in, as it is a) the same cost, and b) their kitchens ain't big enough..
i'd seriously think about considering dropping the idea of "cooking at home" while in NYC, because if people who live there don't.. why bother even attempting to cook something..
support the local businesses in this tough economic climate, try new foods, and you can eat very very healthily...

A little help please.
Due to fly out to New York 4th November, we were then flying down to Florida for a bit of sun then flying back from Orlando. Booked it all with BA as they had a flight from Gatwick to New York and then fly back to Gatwick from Orlando.
Now did you spot the problem?? The word HAD!! They've just cancelled the flight from Gatwick to New York and rebooked us to fly out from Heathrow!! I booked it this way because I didn't want the messing around getting from airport to airport, the price was extremely good as well as I booked it well in advance.
Any ideas, I don't know what my rights are with BA if they cancel a flight, I'll try and phone them tonight but I'd like to have some ideas of alternatives. Can I cancel and start again (knowing I probably won't get the same kind of price!!). I'm in South Wales so I guess I'll have a look and see if BA fly from Manchester to New York and back from Orlando.
Anyone had a similar experience that they can offer some advice
Thanks In advance,
Stew
I can't understand the problem here... you were going fro Gatwick to NYC.. but now you're going from LHR to NYC... how were you getting from South Wales to the airport, go straight down the M4 and heathrow is nearer!!!!
you are probably allowed a full refund, but if you've got a good price, you probably can't beat it..
BA don't do direct flights from MAN, so you'll end up getting a BA flight from MAN to LHR, then to NYC anyway... so you're going 4 hours in 1 direction to end up where you would be if you went 4 hours in the other direction anyway...0 -
Can I just say a quick thanks to Markymoo and those of you who replied to my earlier post to calm my nerves about going to NY on my own?
I got back yesterday and enjoyed it; even though it was a work trip! I ended up walking everywhere (so I didn't miss anything), but didn't do too many of the big touristy things because I was up in the Midtown area and was shattered after long days at work. When I did navigate the subway it was easy and I don't know what I was worried about!
Even though I probably only had a few hours to myself in the evenings, I still spent an awful lot of money on 5th Avenue... ;-)
It was very easy to find my way around, and New Yorkers are very friendly and willing to help (apart from the snotty woman who served me in Bloomingdales ;-)). As for Dylan's Candy Store opposite... I've never had such a sugar rush without eating anything!!
Am now planning a trip back to do it some justice! I certainly recommend it to single travellers as it's a very safe place to be (I see what you mean now MM!).0 -

Mark,
Perhaps you didn't read my post properly...
The problem is flying out from Heathrow and then back to Gatwick from Orlando.
BA had the only flight that went direct from Gatwick to New York, that was why I booked it. Now i'm flying out from Heathrow i've got to get from Gatwick to Heathrow to collect my car to come home, its annoying but if thats what it is thats what it is. I hoped that somebody here may have had some way around it but further investigation has shown that there isn't. All Orlando flights go to Gatwick, all New York flights (now) go to Heathrow.
You could answer another question, I've got a choice of flights now, one that lands at Newark and the other at JFK, it looks to me that it is easier to get into Manhattan from Newark than JFK (using public transport). Would you agree??
Stew0 -
No, i wouldn't agree on the public transport thing. Both JFK and EWR as just as easy to get into Manhattan from. Depends exactly what part of NYC you're staying in (i'd assume times square), so it really doesn't matter which public transport you use.
I think it is slightly easier from JFK, with the Airtrain linking to the E subway train, which goes to 50th street, 42nd street and 34th street, whereas from EWR, you get the airtrain to a train station, and then get NJ Transit into Penn Station, so you're at 34th street and you could still have a bit of an onward journey to hit your hotel
Also, from JFK there is a fixed price for a taxi of $45, whereas from EWR you're actually in New Jersey, so you have a slightly higher price, as it's a different state, so it costs around $60, but this isn't fixed.
I now understand what you mean about your flights. Serves me right for not reading things correctly... and Yes, that is highly annoying, the only thing you can do is complain to BA, and see if you can get a free coach etc from LHR TO LGW

Just a quick suggestion....have you thought about hiring a car and just dropping off at LHR then hire one at Gatwick for your homeward journey?0 -
Mark,
We're actually staying in Chelsea so quite close to Penn Station, its a moot point now as BA have phoned us to ask what we'd like to do and we've gone for the slightly earlier flight to Newark. We're also flying from Newark to Orlando so might as well fly in and out of the same airport.
Wept,
We had this problem last year as well when we flew to Vegas from Gatwick and back to Heathrow from LA and looked at it as an option then but didn't go for it, we ended up driving to Heathrow first, parking the car there and getting the bus to Gatwick as we used Virgin twilight check in. To be honest as we're landing on a Saturday morning this time we'll get ourselves to Heathrow by bus or taxi (without the dreaded M25 morning rush hour!!) and get the car back. Like I said its just annoying but thats life!!
