Ok.. some thoughts on this..
1 - you're not staying a saturday night, so flight prices normally are more expensive, so as a "package" yes, it is cheap... who are the flights with, and are the times good?
2 - the Waldorf Astoria isn't as nice as it used to be. Read the tripadvisor reviews on the hotel, and it ain't too hot!
3 - Bear in mind that in New York, hotels are charged per room, not per person as well, so this is an easy way for "tour operators" to inflate prices artificially in my opinion.
However, as you're not staying a saturday night, then yes, the deal is good. flights alone without a sat night stay are over £500 each.
but if you slightly shift dates to the 29th - 3rd jan, you can get flights for £339 each. then you need a hotel room, which the Walforf Astoria will cost you £939.75
grand total £1617, so yes, £1500 each is cheap.
Yet another but... how about staying somewhere else.
The Millenium Hilton which is downtown, is reasonably priced £823.30 for the 5 night stay, and book on hotels.com via quidco you'll get some cash back. £1510 for the stay, and you're staying in a hotel that is 68th out of 412 rather than the Waldorf which is only 118th

the above is my opinion and does not constitute advice0 -
Thanks Mark.
We are flying with Delta and its something like 2pm in the afternoon. Someone else said about the Hilton, but my OH wanted to stay in the Waldorf because it was so famous! I think we should look into the Hilton though. I did read the reviews and wasn't impressed with what they said, but i think we were putting it down to people being overly fussy. Thank you for your advice. We will have a look at something else and see what we can get.If dogs don't go to heaven, then I want to go where they go. :A0 -

I've used Hotelclub.com via Quidco.
They pay 9% and they pay up very quickly (last 2 bookings paid up within 35 days).
I'm staying at the Beacon Hotel next month, which I only booked at the end of March. Cashback (£80) is due to be paid at the beginning of May before we fly.0 -

the waldorf may be famous, but that's probably why they can let standards slip... people can be fussy, but tripadvisor is a good resource, and most of the reviews on there are true and factual...

We are going to look into the Hilton today now instead. We don't really mind where we stay, but we wanted it to be a nice hotel because neither of us have been to NY before and we just wanted the best placed hotel for being near things really, but reading through your threads, it seems like most places in NY are very easily accessible. If dogs don't go to heaven, then I want to go where they go. :A0

absolutly right and the wardolf has such a high name that you expect the top of everything. So if you get a four star service you are p*ssed off but go else where dont expect the wardolf type of attention but you get a four star service you are amazed and prepared to give two different reviews for the same service FWIW we looked into the wardolf as it was a choice we were thinking of and it looks tired and stuffy very traditional and my 70 yo parents would love. We stayed in the westin. Very new, fresh central with good views from high up. (but expensive also) hard as nails on the internet . wimp in the real world :cool:0 -
We have found the flights and Hilton for £729 - it is the Hilton oppostite the 9/11 ground. Seems to be a bit further out than the other hotels we were looking at though. I think we may go for this.If dogs don't go to heaven, then I want to go where they go. :A0

Dont worry about being far out as you have several subway routes right there.
You are 20 minutes from Times Square, 10 minutes from Soho, Chinatown, Little Italy etc.
You are a 5 minute walk from Battery Park, Financial district, about 10 minutes from Tribeca and its good bars and delis. You can walk to South St Seaport in about 10-15 minutes from there. A&F store some of the most beautiful shop assistants you will ever see and a cheap tickets booth here for Broadway shows.
You are really near 21st Century shops if you like that sort of thing ( I hated it)0 -
Sorry posted twice - see below.
