Take a look at the guide - Getting into and around Manhattan - the link to this guide is on page 1 of the thread, and that explains many different ways to get into Manhattan from the various airports.0 -
There was a post way back in March (I think) re:the New yorker pass. Just wondering what people think of this as it is currently $155 for the 7 day pass. I know that I am not going to get to see everything on it but for the things which I do want to see it comes to approx $120 but the pass will allow me to get in to other things as well - I quite fancy going to the different zoos etc. Any way enough of my rambling . Has anyone used these passes before and are they too good to be true IYKWIM.0

Just back from holiday to NY...Many thanks for the tips from lot of Moneysavers...
I stayed at a rental apartment, walking distance from Empire State building, and near to 34th Street Penn Station and managed to get for $100/night stay...I felt it was very good price and apartment is nice as well with a small kitchen and big living room...(Went with a kid 3 yr old). Normal price is $170, but in months of March and April, the owner does negotiate the price....
Here is the link if somebody wants to have a look and book for it;

i hate to say it, but most apartment rentals in NYC are illegal sublets, regardless how official they look, etc.
even some hotels shouldn't be hotels, and this is discussed in great depth alot over on the trip advisor forums..

I used this last week and was a little disappointed by the "fast track" claim that it talks about on the website. I got the impression that you wave the card at the door and jump the queue but this is not true. You still have to wait in the ticket queue and collect an entry ticket.
I used mine for the Liberty Island Ferry, Natural History Museum, Empire State Building, Top of the Rockerfeller and the Sex Museum (which was an eye opener!). I paid $155.00 and I don't think that the total of these attractions came to less than this. Saying that, I did waste one day so probably would have visited the Guggenheim and The Bodyworks exhibition by Pier 17.
It does save having to find cash and credit cards at each venue.0 -
the thing with new yorker pass, or city pass or any of them is that you have to actually go to places, to see things.
Personally, this takes a bit too much planning, as I want to see new york CITY and am happy with deciding at random i'm going to go, to place a, or b, and not have to think, i have to hit $155 worth of visits to museums, etc or i'll have lost money0 -

Statue of Liberty - do not, I repeat NOT, waste your time going inside the Statue of Liberty! The security is ridiculous and will take you hours. Perhaps go to the Island on the ferry because its nice to wander around, but don't bother going inside. The whole experience makes you feel like an animal being led around a paddock and into an abatoir.

This was one of the highlights of my NYC trip. I thought the security was no worse than at the average airport and the machine I stood in to "test for residues" was an experience. I met some great people, got some good exercise walking up the numberous steps, found the informative display quite interesting and enjoyed the views of the island. Got some great pics of Manhattan too. I went across on the first ferry on a Saturday morning over Easter. I also did the Ellis Island museum and was back at Battery Park for 10.30am. There were no queues at this time in the morning.
Each to their own I suppose. Yes, the security is perhaps a little over the top, but after what they have been through, its fully understandable.0 -

I think for a first time visitor, it's ideal. If I go again, I wouldnt buy one.0
