Okay, well I had my first teaching sessions from my OH's mum on Sunday and I have been practising my basic stitches and how to hold the hook. I am proud to tell you I have made a granny square (pattern from the attic) it is really looks like it was meant to-can't really believe it. So in celebration I have spent a stupid amount of money of DK rowan cotton! OMG not very MS at all!

However the wool I have been practising on was rubbish so I feel justified! LOL

I will keep going Rosy I am determined to make something. The wool I have been using is black and I think making it difficult to see the stitches even with my readers on :o

Well done sazzy I can't wait to do a granny square, so far I have managed a chain of stitches:rotfl: it's when it comes to hooking into them that it all falls apart. Ah well I won't give up.

Off to the wool shop tomorrow to buy something lighter coloured and maybe a 5mm hook. Watch this space!

It was okay really - I was taught how to do a chain and a treble (I think) and the only other stitch I needed was a bobble which I followed on you tube. The only trouble I had was every time I got the hang of one stitch I forgot the previous one and then needed to re-learn it (it was a lot easier re-learning it each time though)

I was hooking in bed last night and OH thinks I have gone a little bit mental!

I posted a link yesterday I think it was to a blanket tutorial on BellaDia, and if you go to that blog, there's also a tutorial for a heart that can be made into a garland.

Also, do a search for the blog called Crafty Daisy or Crafty Daisies (can't remember which it is and don't have the link handy). That blog has an excellent learn to crochet tutorial with pictures and videos. Can't remember if they had tutorials for projects, but it's worth checking out.

I've got that book, but my squares aren't as big as yours! What size hook and wool are you using?

That's actually quite a small square about 5 inches using DK and a 4mm hook.
I usually use a 5.5mm or 6mm hook with DK to get somewhere between a 6inch and 7 inch square
and for fun a 8mm or 9mm with worsted/arran yarn. for a much bigger square about 8 to 10 inches.
