Greenpixey, your amigurumis are brilliant, any good pattern books you can recommend? Do the library stock them, do you think? And do you crochet in wool or cotton and which brand do you use?

I went to my local library and asked if they could buy some books in. They were really nice about it and purchased 3 different ones. I found I liked the "Amigurumi world - seriously cute crochet by Ana Paula Rimoli" best. It was easy to understand the patterns and it had step by step how to crochet in the beginning of the book. Making amigurumis you crochet in the round, instead of back and forth. Once I got the hang of it and the abbreviations I searched the net for free patterns and I also buy patterns from places like DaWanda & Etsy

Starting off I just bought cheap DK 100% acrylic yarn from Shaws and hooks from the charity shop.
Now I tend to spend a little bit more. I like to use Sirdar Snuggly for my larger bunnies otherwise I just go to a yarnshop and buy what I need for the item I'm making. I'm like a kid in a sweetshop going in there though so it can get expencive.
Most patterns suggest you use a 3mm hook so I buy the yarn after the suitable hook size

Oh thank you so much greenpixey. Will enquire after Christmas at the library. Great that they just bought them after you asking, you can only ask, can't you?

I bought these lovely crochet hooks from ebay a while ago, all sizes and they feel great to crochet with

zombiecazz - your kitten looks just like ours! He's 18 weeks old today, so another few weeks and he can go for his little op! (Don't want to shout too loudly :rotfl::rotfl:)

    I bought this book http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/1906525390/ref=s9_sima_gw_s0_p14_i1?pf_rd_m=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE&pf_rd_s=center-1&pf_rd_r=0W9PEFETEZ6CWPX9EDE1&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=467198433&pf_rd_i=468294
but got mine from the Book People for £2.99 (or was it £3.99?). It was cheaper than Amazon anyway, but they don't seem to have it in the Book People any more. So far I haven't made anything out of the book as I haven't got any wool yet.

I made my DD2 a sweater which came out really well. The only problem is that I crocheted the seams, and they seem to unravel whenever it's washed, so I'm having to sew them up properly each time. I think I've eventually re-sewng the whole thing now. When I first made it I had to unravel the whole jumper because I didn't think it was going to be big enough!
  • Thanks psso for the link to Kemps. I've spent an enjoyable bit of time browsing and will be ordering soon.

I'm actually considering branching out and doing something other than the occasional scarf, although I find it very therapeutic and easy to switch off doing, so maybe not!
