I love Lucy's blog, it's so colourful and her tutorials are excellent. Her hex blanket reminds me of a Klimt painting.

I do too, it's beautiful but gosh it's a time-eater! Especially if you get distracted on to the flickr links from there which show some lovely stuff.

I got on ok...... can do the single and chain totally fine, it's linking it all together which is the problem . My stitches seemed a bit tight and i started to get confused where to put the needle in and if I was missing stitches out. Is this normal?

Was very tired as well - tried different sized needles and was just not working. Im not sure if I'm doing my stitches too tight or how to know how tight they should be.

  • Hi Zippy, that first row of crocheting into the chain is a bit tricky especially if it has been done tightly. I find that if I work the chain very loosely or maybe even use a bit bigger hook (just for the chain,) then go back to the smaller hook that you intend to use for the rest of your work, that may help you. One good thing is that once the first row into the chain is done, the 'holes' you will be working into are a lot bigger and easier to see.
There is a pattern and pics for curly wurly keyfobs on the Knit a Square thread if you look back. They are done in a similar way (only smaller) and may be a good practice project so you get the hang of it.
Good luck, don't despair, there is lots of help at hand from the friendly people on here.

I agree about using different sized hooks. My foundation chains are often tight, so I use a hook one size larger for that, then change to the smaller hook for the rest. It makes it much easier to get the hook into the chain.

Ahhh you're a star! I was thinking, good lord, how on earth amd i going to find the pattern in that thread. I don't know how to read the pattern though
PATTERN - chain for 20, two trebles into 4th chain down, then three trebles into all the other chain stitches - its magic curly appears in no time. Thank you Pam for setting me off on another hobby. Promise I will practice and get a lot better

Two trebles into 4th chain down - does that mean you start at the 4th one down, or do 4 trebles for 4 stitches?

I need to learn what trebles are

My magazine is being posted today so hopefully should be here in a couple of days and i won't be quite so "hold my hand and help me do this" pathetic.

  • Hi, it means that when you have done your chain of 20 you will turn and work back along the chain you have just created. Hold the chain in your left hand and start in the 4th chain hole down.
