Hi all, I was away on holiday last week so I didn't update in time for the chart, but here it is.....drum roll.......
I've done it! I am mortgage free!! Yay!!
I know I didn't have as much to pay off as many of you, but being part of the challenge has really helped to keep me inspired. Making that last transfer from my account to pay off the mortgage was a really great feeling. I'm looking forward to next month's payday when the money's all mine!
I won't be joining you for Take Three of the challenge, obviously, but I'll pop in from time to time to see how you are getting on.
Keep going, the feeling is well worth it when you get there!

Hi all,
WOW, you are all very inspirational. I have been overpaying on my mortgage for a couple of years now, but would be very happy to join this challenge if you do another one after this one completes. I am sure I could stretch myself a little further. Could someone PM me if that happens? Very well done to all of you!Save £12k 2013 '13 #66 £12,106.76/£12,000 // '14 #44 £10,081.90/£10,000 // '15 #67 £11,976/£12,000 // '16 #67 £7,322/£12,000

DH has finally agreed to let us get a shower which is going to mean removing the entire bathroom, jiggling it around and then replacing it. We are going to get a chap in to quote us for getting that done and to do the hall stairs and landing. There will be ceilings to come down and go up again and replastering aplenty. Am hoping the whole lot can be done for less than 5K but not sure when we will get it done.
We may have the money available without touching our ISA's and we may even be able to have a fiddle and get the mortgage cleared earlier than expected and just save for the works at a later date but this will show when we actually have some quotes in.
Am doing 4 extra night shifts this week so should net around £600 for them. Mind you, I'm feeling it as I'm full of cold tonight and would much rather be at home in bed until I was due in on Friday night!Debt: 16/04/2007:TOTAL DEBT [strike]£92727.75[/strike] £49395.47:eek:   £43332.28 repaid 100.77% of £43000 target.MFiT T2: Debt [STRIKE]£52856.59[/STRIKE] £6316.14 £46540.45 repaid 101.17% of £46000 target.2013 Target: completely clear my [STRIKE]£6316.14[/STRIKE] £0 mortgage debt. £6316.14 100% repaid.0 -

Both hubby and son were full of cold, lasting well into two weeks, when I started coming down with it. I was recommended Vicks First Defence nasal spray, which I bought immediately. Miraculous! I took echinacea and high doses of Vit C as well. Try it if you can get to a shop - £7 plus so not cheap, but my health is worth a lot more than that to me!MFiT-T3 Number 61 Reduce mortgage by £50000Mar 13 £5660/11.32% June 13 £12513/25.03% Sept 13 £16951/33.90% Sept 14 £38391/78.78% paid offMFiT-T2 Number 34 Reduce mortgage by £66471Dec 12 100% paid off!0 -
Having posted my last update, I was into the red for the first time ever in the challenge and unhappy with that.
So I am motivated, and back on the case of making our money work better for us, to try and achieve this challenge, before the next one starts!
We both had fixed rate cash ISAs which matured this year. Normally I roll them over into the next fixed rate, but the bank had withdrawn the product. We were forced on to a variable rate with a one year bonus, so the rate will get even worse in a years time. On investigating, I saw that the bank offers an online ISA with a better rate and no bonus in built (hate the things - just give us a decent ongoing rate). I rang up asking to switch, to be told, no it's only for transfers in from other providers or new subscriptions.
Now suitably fired up, I found a fixed rate ISA for two years with a rate and a provider I'm comfortable with. Put the sums into a compound rate calculator. The difference between leaving the money where it is or moving it comes to a total gain (or loss!) of £2200.
So, job done, transfer forms completed and posted and £2200 for a few hours work is a very good rate of pay methinks! One step nearer the goal.....MFiT-T3 Number 61 Reduce mortgage by £50000Mar 13 £5660/11.32% June 13 £12513/25.03% Sept 13 £16951/33.90% Sept 14 £38391/78.78% paid offMFiT-T2 Number 34 Reduce mortgage by £66471Dec 12 100% paid off!0 -
