Anyone else with kids yet to put through uni :eek::eek::eek::eek:. Mine are just 9 and almost 7. I pray that they don't want to become Doctor, architect or anything to do with law. Can you imagine (7x9000)x2= £126000 . We're looking at £54k for normal 3 year courses . Thank the lord we'll finish this thing when the eldest is 12 so we can start saving massively. Might put paid to the idea of btl to fund our retirement though. Won't be able to afford uni fees and a mortgage I shouldn't have thought .

So'k. Guy I know has a new job as a employment lawyer and his starting salary is 43k. He's 25 and he paid out approx 12k student fees for this, with the REAL cost being met by the TAXPAYER. Good investment don't you think?

    Mortgage-free Glee!
Just caught up with the posts from the start of the month. Congratulations on everyone hitting the £2m mark this quarter and special congratulations to Queen Bee on edging ever closer to mortgage freedom.

We're having a great time being mortgage free now that we've received the first pay where there's no mortgage taking a big chunk out. Moyra has had a couple of shopping sprees and I finally got over my MSE addiction to buy myself an iphone (trouble is now Moyra wants one as well). We've got an ipad to buy after christmas for the house, a new bathroom to buy at the end of the month (hopefully the sales will be good to us) and Vegas for us and a couple of family members to book in early January. We wish you all a merry Christmas, a happy new year, a joyous year 2 in the challenge and an expedited journey to joining us in mortgagefreeland...

    Cheers,

    Billy & Moyra

  • Cheers Billy, I'm treading a delicate line here - it looks as if I'm gonna be mortgage free before I'm back in employment, but once the debt has gone, my outgoings will plummet and I can batten down the hatches for as long as it takes :) (hopefully not too long, but we'll see!!). Sounds like you're already making the most of your new status... well done!

Can't wait until the next chart is published!

Best wishes to everyone for a lovely Christmas :rudolf: and well done to all of us at the end of Year 1...

Massive fee? The average student who now goes onto self funded higher education will have to find an extra £20 per week once they hit a salary of 21k per annum. There is obviously no ceiling to this and stats show that the vast majority of people who attend uni have a much higher earning capacity than those who don't.
