    Just updated with google doc.

We changed to repayment 3 months ago so since the last update we've paid a further £551 off the capital without really noticing.

It's going to be hard to make extra payments next year as DS will be learning to drive etc......Also just noticed Kipper's comment above about their son going to uni in 2012 and that could also be a big expense for us too.

Forgot to say the balance of our mortgage is now £45417 and our aim is to get it down to £40K by Dec 2012.

    Good luck

    Mortgage-free Glee!
I've updated too, managed to catch up with our target despite trying to get some building work done, tho we have a big credit card bill now (0%) so we've not really done quite as well as it looks. Looking forward to the charts :)
Mortgage November 2003 was £135k, but thanks to this website on 28/08/12 we became MORTGAGE FREE!
Now just over 2 years we have taken on the challenge again! )(starting £237k Nov 2014) Current mortgage £232,399.82, current overpayment total £1550, years remaining= 17
  • Hi all,

Great to see the updates rolling in. We've passed the £2 million mark and that's before this evening's batch has been processed.

I've been promising this for ages, so I thought I'd better get cracking...

    Some sort of chart analysis.
Always had the intention to analyse the results and originally was going to just number crunch them manually and type up in MSE forums.

But, in the age of computers and spreadsheets, I thought I'd try out some electronic analysis, which I could quickly update as each chart is rolled out.

Can I stress that this is very much work in progress, but here's what I've done so far this evening:
    https://spreadsheets.google.com/pub?key=0AnhcWfGMRVgddGtzMTdvS1VnNXUwakpPc3NjZzRHMVE&hl=en_GB&single=true&gid=30&output=html

Got to the part where I was intending to do some financial analysis, eg are we on track taking all challenges into consideration, are we on track just analysing people who have provided updates etc and my brain have gave in for the evening, so I'm throwing in the towel.

Intend to keep working on this and keep adding analysis sections as I think of them.

If you can apply a formula or some sort of calculation to the base data, I'll probably be able to add it into the chart, so if you are interested in seeing something in particular in there, then please speak up and I'll see what I can do!

Thanks and keep the updates coming in...

And with 2 DDs..my goal is now that we should be MF before they may want
to go onto Higher Ed..can't see how they would afford it otherwise:eek:

This is a big concern for lots of us then. My twins started Secondary School in September so I can see double trouble ahead if they both want to go to university in 6 years time. Paying off the mortgage before then would be a great big help.

Best of luck and Merry Christmas to all

Just realised that if I manage to hit my target of Oct 2019, DD1 would be starting Uni that month (If she decides to go) hmmm thats a good incentive to keep at it! Even more so to you with twins hey!

  • Hi guys

Gosh that first year went quick

    Progress:-
    Start Point £45490.41
    Target £35490.41
Actual Finish Point as of today £39347.65
61.72% accomplishment of target 1/3 of way into challenge.

So yeah am quite pleased with that but I know it was a relatively easy target compared to some. I started OP'ing June 2008 in varying small amounts and have now knocked off 28 months :D

But I am feeling rather disproportionately sulky today regarding some minor financial issues. Nothing important in the grand scheme of things (ie. No unexpected bills, I'm not in debt, I have most of my health, I'm not out on the street, my boiler hasn't broken yet) but I've been a bit naughty and not as careful as I should....

    1) I've gone a wee bit overboard on the Xmas pressie budget for my lovely little nieces by about £32

    2) I'm having family round for the first time ever on Xmas Eve so bought things to make the house look nice / serve food etc. Hey....it wouldn't be Christmas without a Singing Reindeer and a Tinkerbell Tree Topper, would it? £56 for various items........

    3) A friend and I go out for a meal every 6 weeks - usually to the same place / eat same things. We take it in turns to pay. It was my turn on Tuesday and when the bill came it was HUGE. I checked it and it turns out they've put their prices up by 28%!!!!!!! It has really bu66ered up my December social allowance. I feel like I've been robbed of that £15 extra and of a great place to eat.

    4) Tescos have ROBBED me as well. Well that's how it feels. I've been looking round for cheapest place to buy a couple of DVD's (Xmas Pressies) and hoping some sort of price war would break out on The Pacific DVD Boxset. Tesco sent me a voucher for £10 off a £30 spend - could only be spent last night and only at one store. I risked life and limb (15 minute car journey with my mother), wrestled my way through 1000's of shoppers who had also been sent same voucher only to find the two s0dding items I wanted were out of stock. I was directed to 3 different staff (one of whom was snotty with me cause it mean he had to walk away from the Wii he'd been playing on) queued at 2 different desks only to be told that DVD's couldn't be ordered. So I thought (as I'd not had time for dinner) that I would console myself with one of the free Sausage Rolls they were handing out only to find Wii-man in front of me taking the last one. I was livid. LIVID. £10 plus Petrol plus Sausage Roll

    5) My waste pipe out of my washer is freezing up at night and I'm out during the day. Live on my own so it's not that catastrophic not being able to do laundry, but it does mean that I had to go out and buy a second pair of thermal long-johns £6

    6) My boots had not one but two holes in and had no tread left. I have stupid feet so only generally buy Clarks. Fortunately they have a sale on but sadly the cost of shoes is now so ridiculous that even with discount my new boots cost £40.

.....and this is all money I should have been OP'ing to mortgage. Bad girl :(

Onwards and upwards! Thanks to FB and Maz for administering the challenge and thanks to you all for various bits of advise and motivation.

Have a great Christmas everyone - I know some people have been unwell this year - I hope very much you are doing a little better.

ROFL! Thanks for this post, really made me laugh! :rotfl: Should've poked the sausage roll up his nose!

Have just updated my end of year figure and will scrape into the green (just!) so am happy with where we're at. :) Looking forward to seeing everyone's progress on the 12th! :T
