True certain offices you cannot ring at weekends (e.g. my own mortgage office queries are Mon-Fri.

However sometimes you cannot take your business elsewhere. For instance, when ringing hospital clinics to make appointments to specific departments you can't get the number on www.saynoto0870.com. You can't go elsewhere either. If say, they are sizeable insurance companies okay, but it isn't always possible in every situation.

Hopefully I will not need the hospital clinics, although I do have the geo numbers for our local hospitals and our doctors even though the doctors surgery is an 0844 number, as up to now,( 3 years after starting the 0844 number the old geo number still works.

You are on the Unlimited Weekend Plan. While BT keep you on that plan you are entitled to all the benefits it gives. Try phoning 0845/0870 numbers which answer at weekend. You might have a pleasant surprise.

If you read,(and quote all from the post you quoted from), you will see that BTs T&Cs state; - "Unlimited Weekend Plan. Only £10.27 a month line rental with Direct Debit and paper-free billing (£11.25 from 1st April), for new and existing residential customers making at least one chargeable call a month with BT."

It is a totally unambiguous statement! Anyone on that package has to make 1 chargeable call per month!
Or are you on that plan and have tried and succeeded in obtaining the "free",(inclusive), calls?

A chargeable call is a call that you would be charged for. Calls included in your inclusive minutes are still regarded as chargeable calls.

I have. All my chargeable calls made through BT at the weekend are free.

I understand the point you make, but if it is true, why do BT put the statement re the "chargeable calls" in their T&Cs if they do not mean to charge you for at least one call?

Are you on the "Unlimited Weekend Plan" only, just paying BT for line rental? If so are you on CPS for calls and therefore why would you make calls through BT?, (unless you don't have free weekend calls with your CPS provider).

We currently have BT line rental only, other calls via Tiscali and other overrides etc. The reason we make the minimum no of calls through BT (via 1280), is to benefit from the then free 1571 facility, which you are charged for if you don't.

Their rules are a chargeable call. My weekend calls are chargeable (i.e. not 0800) but are included in my calls package.

You can't just have line rental. Everyone with line rental is automatically on at least the Unlimited Weekend Plan.

My CPS is Primus and does include free weekend calls. I put my weekend calls through BT to qualify for free Caller Display which would otherwise cost me £1.75 approx per month. I used to pay 5p to make my chrageable call but now I don't have to. I just put all my weekend calls through BT which are all free and count.

Whatever gave you the idea I had missed the term "chargeable call"? If you ask BT what it means they may very well tell you
In response to your e-mail, I can confirm that the chargeable call means the call made during the evening and daytime. As you are on option 1 all the calls made during weekend will not be charged, hence it will not be considered as the chargeable call.
    Totally unambiguous.

Or ask them what would happen if you were absent from home for a long period with no calls made from your line. No ambiguity in this response.
I would also like to inform you that you can retain the free weekend calls offer even after coming back to UK as you will be on the same option which will be option 1.

Just because something appears on the BT website - that doesn't make it part of BT's T&C.

The term would would need to be included in their electronic price list for it to be so.

It does seem that from having gone from avoiding using 0870 numbers, it is now a turnaround to looking for them when calling abroad. In order to route the call via BT, using 1280, and then getting a free call abroad, what is the snag with this provider? The website does seem somewhat "homespun" and no mention of registered company etc.? Any views?

I can't see how they are making any money - they say they will not charge from the call made from them abroad (so, therefore a free call) and BT in theory will not charge as it is an 0870 number. What am I missing?
  • I’m loosing track of what’s going on at the moment. I’m with Primus for the free evening and weekend calls and use saynoto0870 alternatives, so I don’t really have to pay for 0845 & 0870 numbers if I do it that way anyway. The thing that’s getting me at the moment is: Do you still have to make 6 calls through BT per quarter to avoid any extra charges if you use an override or CPS provider? I'm asking this as I'm presently using BT's caller display. Does this still apply?
