I'm asking this as I'm presently using BT's caller display. Does this still apply?Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0

Thanks Heinz!
I'm presently using 1899 for weekday calls and Primus for evening and weekend calls. If I use BT 1280 at the weekend are those calls 100% free for the hour or is there a connection charge. I've never been able to figure that out.0 -
What am I missing?
BT do/will charge to call Indirect Access Numbers like call0870.
"Availability of free 0845 and 0870 calls of up to 60 minutes duration (excluding indirect access numbers and dial-up internet access) dependent on residential BT Calling Plan:"

Only chargeable calls (not inclusive ) carry a call set up/connection fee.0 -

How are BT going to distinguish between 0870 to an indirect access number like 0870 339 1111 (call0870.co.uk) and 0870 005 0148 (skint tariffs) and any other 0870 numbers. Or am I to assume they keep two separate lists (one lot for charging and one for free)???0 -

Totally unambiguous.
Or ask them what would happen if you were absent from home for a long period with no calls made from your line. No ambiguity in this response.
From the recent past:
http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=1430001
I spoke to BT yesterday, and 3 people told me three different things!
1st one said that I needed to make 2 chargeable weekday calls per week to allow the "free" weekend calls.
2nd to told me 2 chargeable weekday calls per month.
3rd told me she "though" that I needed to make 2 chargeable weekday calls per month!
So nothing adds up, my only way to confirm is to make a call at the weekend and see if it appears on my bill!
Am a bit concerned about the reply you received,(when) as option 1 has not been an option for a while, it has been called "Unlimited Weekend Plan" so if that reply was from BT, even they don't know their plans from their elbows ; -
"Quote:
In response to your e-mail, I can confirm that the chargeable call means the call made during the evening and daytime. As you are on option 1 all the calls made during weekend will not be charged, hence it will not be considered as the chargeable call."
Even that reply contradicts itself, "chargeable call means the call made during the evening and daytime"
"all the calls made during weekend will not be charged, hence it will not be considered as the chargeable call.""
Don`t steal - the Government doesn`t like the competition0 -
Are the free 0870 calls subject to a 60 minute hang up and ring back scenario?0

It won't. You are on the Unlimited Weekend Plan so the cost of calls to 01/02/03/0845/0870 numbers is 0p per minute. This is set out in the BT Price List.
If BT decided you were ineligible for that plan because you had not made a chargeable call there are a couple of interesting points to reflect on. Which Plan would they move you to and how would you go about getting back on the Unlimited Weekend Plan?0 -
