BT adding 0870/0845 numbers to its call packages - discussion

I'm currently with sky on their sky talk unlimited package for free (usually £5 a month). But as others have pointed out their 0870/45 numbers are charged at exhorbitant rates and my bill comes to around £8 anyway. The reason I like sky talk is because firstly they are free at the moment and secondly I can call the UK, US and Austrailia for free anytime (peak or off-peak).

The question I had is since I have my line rental through BT, can I use the 1280 option to route my 0870/0845 calls through BT? I usually make these calls in the evening so they should be free :j I head somewhere that the 1280 option is not available with sky (I also asked a sky talk advisor about this and they said it is not possible). Please do let me know if this is possible

No you cant use 1280 to place your calls via BT if your with Sky Talk as the system they now use will place your calls via Sky and they will charge you their higher rates.( In any case the calls would not be inclusive/free on BT Evening and Weekends unless you have a 12 month rolling call contract with BT)

You can still use www.18185.co.uk to get cheaper 0845/0870 calls.

We are also with Sky Talk (not line rental, still with BT) and I have just ordered a BT chargecard to keep the free 1471/1571.

We also use 18185.

What do people recommend for 0871/0844 with the above set-up? Wherever possible I try a) to use saynoto0870 and b) to make such calls from work(!) but... very occasionally there is no other option but to make such calls (and in one case an 0906 call) - who should I be making these calls with?

I can't see how they can move me to another plan as that would involve me,(without my permission), either having to pay an extra monthly fee, or sign up to a 12 month rolling contract, neither of which I intend to do.

I will make a call at the weekend, so lets wait until then, or until the call shows on the online bill.

sorry for asking this if it has been asked before. Questions 2 and 3 are kinda the same questions. We are with talktalk but i hope they start the free 0845 and 0870 numbers soon.

1. At the back of male and female magazines, you get cheap adult phone lines ones that are 0845 and 0870 for like 9 or 10p a minute. does that mean you could phone them for free? (i dont call them, am just asking)

2. my brother has a girlfriend living abroad just now and he phones her mobile from my house phone using a code he got online. calls an 0870number to do this. does that mean the call would be free?

3. sometimes i have no credit and i use the house phone to phone family members to see were they are. again i use an 0870 before i dial the mobile number as its cheaper. would i also get that free? Thanks

You can use BT via 1280 to make inclusive calls to 0870 numbers providing Talk Talk are not now charging you direct for calls made via 1280.

Calls to 0845/0870 numbers on BT are inclusive subject to a fair use policy,and can be used at certain times depending on what call option you are on. Calls made using indirect access numbers are not supposed to be included as you would find out if you read the thread.;)

Calls to 0871 6p to 10p numbers are not included.

i was just getting a bit confused when reading it all so indirect will mean the 2 different types of 0870 numbers we use and also if you were to dial the numbr from the 1st question. thanks
