I asked the woman if they'd been busy and she told me that I was the 422nd BR to go through Norwich County Court this year  Blimey - I was no. 258 and I thought that was a lot! thats nearly 5 a day in Stoke - 8 a day in Norwich then (over 52 working days so far this year). Seems loads are doing it.
Maybe it was nerves but I nearly laughed when the "usher" said that I should call the judge "Sir", especially as when I saw him for the first time, I thought he looked a lot like Sir Ian McKellen (:rotfl: ) At least you didnt call him 'Gandalf'!!:)
Really glad it went well and smoothly for you - we can get on with the rest of our lives now - just the OR stuff to go through - but Im not worried at all about that - Im not gonna try to sidestep anything Im asked - Ive been a fool and quite happy to admit it.
Well done again tiggypig :j :j :j
[/QUOTE]:j Goodbye debt - Hello sanity! :j0 -
I have officially joined the March BR club now and feel really relieved that I have dealt with my debts and can now hopefully look forward to a brighter future without being enslaved by debt. House is in neg eq with a secured loan on it - really hope i can keep my car - it isnt worth much and would be difficult to get to an from work without it.
Was wondering also - have had phone call from OR's office - spoke to a nice woman who took many details about assets, bank accounts etc and Ive got my OR interview on 2nd April.
I didnt ask, but now wonder if this woman I spoke to is actually my allocated OR??
She told me her first name and that if I had any problems or questions between now and the interview then to call her on a particular telephone number. Anyone know whether this would be the case? - it was at stoke court btw.:j Goodbye debt - Hello sanity! :j0 -
Just popping my experience at court today in here - Ive posted a separate thread but perhaps should have put it in here - just for info anyway.
Got to the court for 10am - the process was straightforward - i was feeling very apprehensive during the whole process though. I think I was the only one there for br - I had ticket No1 given to me - the civil counter is right next to the family counter - there were some people who are going through divorce, a guy who was distressed about the CSA taking nearly all his wages, and some one who sounded like she was in the process of having her house repossessed - all sad and difficult situations.
After notifiying the counter clerk that I wanted to petition for bankruptcy, i was called into an interview room about 10 minutes later. There I handed over my petition papers and fees to a male clerk. There was a woman with him who was 'training' and he explained the checking of the papers to her - I did ask him to correct the error about secured loan amount which he did.
I signed the petition and swore on the Bible and was told to come back at 11:10am to go before the Judge in the Chambers.
So, at shortly after 11:10am I was ushered upstairs to a seated area and was shortly afterward, called in to a room where the Judge was seated.
I was bricking it a bit at this point - he was quite stern at first and for a few seconds I thought he was going to say I wasnt eligible for br, but he started by confirming my request to be considered for br, asked if I had sought advice - I said yes from various debt charities - He asked if i had been advised about an IVA and I said that a debt charity had said I was ineligible for one. He summed up the amount of debt I was in and declared me br at 11:30am - He then told me about the OR's involvement and the restrictions of bankruptcy that I was now under.
He did smile a little then and said that many people are going br at the moment, its a sign of the times and that I was number 258 this year at this court. He also said that people go br for 1 of 3 reasons; theyre unlucky, incompetent, or wicked - and that br extensions (BRU/O) are rarely given and usually only to those who have acted wickedly. (Felt slightly reassured by that).
I then was handed a file, took that back downstairs to the counter clerk and was told to come back at 12:20pm to speak to the OR's office over the phone. When I came back, was told that the OR's office would call me at home. So I left and whilst driving home my mobile rang - it must have been the OR, I didnt answer it in time so am now at home waiting for them to call back hopefully.
Im really glad that this part is finally over - is it really true that I am now debt free (apart form mortgage and secured loan of course) for the first time in donkeys years??? Seems weird, to have my debt wiped out in a moment - I dont owe any money to these companies anymore!:j Goodbye debt - Hello sanity! :j0 -
