Aha, olive - didn't know you were working away simultaneously avec moi!

About 15 years ago, when the then State of Art translation pkg came out(Globalink PowerTranslatorProfessional, it was called), there was much fun throwing in a known text - lump of lovely Dickens for example, or Keats' poetry etc.etc. and seeing what PTP would throw back.
Then, this would be put back via PTP...you see where this is going...you can do it yourselves for fun and there'll be loads more uptod8 progs out there now.

After 4/5/6 there and back's, it all becomes quite wonderful and strangely, deliciously anarchic.

Great fun - try nursery rhymes with little'uns.

But I always loved - and still do- the journeying and working with text, pen and paper.

While in France tending A, picked up a wonderful notebook with clasp in which 1st writing is dated 1949:D , so meant for me. Some pages in, the owner has composed La Chanson des Pins(I'm sure it's her own effort, somewhat doggerelish in places, but so written with heart and observation and at times successfully pinning down something elusive and vital and haunting) ............

.............anyway, a continuing pleasure is to translate a bit more now and then, enjoying the feeling of her setting down sudden bons mots/phrases and then having to perhaps finetune, reconsider earlier translation by self, in light of similar lightbulb moments/intuitions.

This can't happen pressing a key.

Read Michel Quint's Strange Gardens, trans. Barbara Bray(no, not me) this morning - short, good.

    Anyone else know it?

Yes, another annoyance re: ! , i.e. holding Alt and keying 130 to get a French 'e acute', which is always censored on this site. WHY?

Well despite not posting on here, I am keeping on MS track......

The argos on-line voucher didn't work......so they're posting me a £10 voucher - whoopee, that means I save the full £10 off the £22 (reduced) curtains for DS2's room because I won't have to pay £5-something for delivery :D

35p on my scratchcards, that brings my DF date forward by, about 30 seconds I think :D

Shopped for cat food and bought just catfood :money:

The rest of this week we're going to be eating whatevers in the fridge. I've cancelled the milk, I've arranged for the cat to be fed (He has been very naughty, and has torn the corner of the bag of dried cat that we couldn't fit in the cupboard and spent the night stuffing himself :rotfl: )

But I haven't yet organised a lift to the airport.....DS1 is on my hit list.....

With the snow still lying in drifts across the garden it is hard to imagine that this time next week I'll be in glorious sunshine :D Fingers crossed that Heathrow isn't closed ;)
