Omg yes, change asap.
Thought people might find this interesting reading. Its about someone who went on a 2000+ mile trek and dehydrated masses of food before he went, even cookies. He did 40lb of bananas, 35lbs of rice etc. The 40lbs of bananas yields 4-5lbs after dehydration  You can see why its so good if you have little space or are carrying lots.
I found it by doing a google search for dehydrated rice as i was wondering if its somehow possible to do rice so you could add a bit of seasoning, peppers, peas etc, then for just pennies you would have the same as that packet rice stuff.

Wow, I've seen them advertised on hiking sites aswell, but they usually charge £70+ for them and they looked pretty small. There was a few ideas for the likes of pasta sauce and dehydrated pasta, the girl who wrote about it said she would stop, mix it with water in a flask and put it in her bag then when they stopped few hours later it would be ready, great idea.
Rice you could just make the stuff to mix and cook the rice as normal with it ?One day I might be more organised...........

Tchibo have their food dehydrator available again, it's just the same as the QVC one though and roughly the same price.

Oh Darn! I've been waiting for ages for the Tchibo one to come back, and it does when I'm trying to have a "no unnecessary spending" month.
Can't miss it again at that price though, I wasn't fast enough last time. And I have loads of things I want to do with it., so... it is necessaryMy first reply was witty and intellectual but I lost it so you got this one instead

That's the spirit!! I too promised myself that I would make no purchases during January, saw the Tchibo catalogue, hesitated for about 15 seconds and then ordered it as fast as I could!!! I missed out on it this time last year so it's not exactly an impulse buy. It arrived yesterday and is now operational on top of my fridge freezer with cherry tomatoes and sliced kohlrabi in it.I like cooking with wine......sometimes I even put it in the food!0 -
I used the code for free postage on the Tchibo one, it's on the discount codes forum somewhere, can I knickers find it.
Have done another 5 trays n mine today, the dried grapes lasted all of half an hour, my son ate the lot this morning, can't get that one to eat grapes but he loved theseOne day I might be more organised...........

Forgive my ignorance please, I am relatively new at this (os that is), But why would you dehydrate mushrooms, onions and garlic etc? Can you add them dried up to stews? Does it really taste better? I'm not very imaginative and can only think off sweet treats to make.
Thanks!July Win: Nokia 58000
