Just out of interest. Have you got any evidence to back up that statement? I always try to keep myself up to date with latest developments (especially with security software). I've never seen anything that would back up what you've written here. How many surrealists does it take to change a lightbulb?

Alas your right i have no hard evidence about this, i can only vouch for my experience working on the Business Broadband Helpdesk for BT and each and every time near enough a new virus came out it seemed to hit those with Nortons hardest by disabling the owners system and spreading like wild fire. There is often compatiblity issues when windows does updates too that nortons doesnt like. Last one that i remember was Service Pack 2. Again picked this up whilst working on the helpdesk. It was a well publicised thing in our call centre. That and its incompatibility issues with a lot of software.
One OS which was Windows 98 where it constantly produced the blue screen of death. Not always i hasten to add as i cant vouch for each and every machine.
Many a time we had to get the customer to uninstall this - Nortons that is before their system would get up and running again normally. I have it on the system i have just now. One of the Dell offers with a trial, only as i have not got round to removing it which needs a tool from symantec to get rid of itself propertly as it likes to lurk all round your system and add / remove programs doesnt remove it totally. It likes to leave traces. I hate it and will go back to using avast as my anti virus some time really soon. Its free and it picked up things that nortons has not such as imbedded spyware in webpages. The one for smiley central is full of spyware. This is the web page that offers you free downloads of msn icons and will install a tool bar on your explorer page so you can add pretty pics to your emails etc etc. Don't touch that !!!
Everyone has a choice as to put on their system and most think that Nortons is the best. Yes it has a good reputation in shops and things and most folks have heard of it and thats why they buy it. Their reputation in shops for recommending is i think purely down to profit. Plenty free stuff out there that works just as well if not better than those you buy. Save yourself some money and utilise your web access and go for the free stuff. In the techie forum there is a topic on just that. Not got time to get the link just now but if i can later i will post it in here for you.
Hope that this helps.0 -
