I thought that was because you worked in a chippy, and the potatoes are always skinned.

.........reformatting is really easy when you have two hard drives and keep all your operating systems on one and your files on the other( or you can partition the hard drive therefore only having to reformat the part with the operating system on)
I don't class myself as a novice, and wouldn't even dream of attempting something like this......
If you prefer to web browse with IE or firefox then thats fine to you don't have to use the aol softwear if you don't like it.
Not exactly..... you still have to have the aol software running - IE: open it up and have it load up. Then when you haven't been on a while, it pops up to tell you that you haven't been on for a while (idle message off, time idle 45 minutes) and keeps flicking back to itself just to wind you up.

My brother bought a new lappy, and the first thing he did (after turning it on) was to remove any trace of AOL from the machine.... i don't blame him (and I'm sure aol still ahve some stuff on there..... somewhere.....)

I cannot believe that the subject of AOL has produced so many threads in less than 24 hours!

My take on this, for what its worth, is don't go with AOL. It is OK while it is working but when it isn't working then heaven help you - the so-called help lines are horrendous and they are not even free these days. You will go around and around in circles with them, and I even had one woman (sounded like a call centre in India) actually cut me off when she discovered what my name was - I had obviously spoken to her before! They will give you any "advice" just to get rid of you and invariably the "advice" doesn't work, although if you get through to a call centre in Bristol or in Canada then you stand half a chance. However you will be kept on hold at premium rates for ages.

When I got a new computer I took the opportunity to move to Plus.Net and have had no problems with their service whatsoever.
  • It is really amazing the amount of interest this has caused! My originaal post was abourt wether a router would work on aol it still hasn't been answered! But after reading all this i won't be going to them anyway. Plusnet seem to be pretty good, as do crimson and virgin. Anyone with ant opinions about the three listed above?
