I speak as a former employee of this place and quit on moral grounds. There were sadists there who seemed to enjoy screaming at people and bringing them to tears.
important things to know folks
If they failed to complete dpa questions and disclose information that breachs dpa its a major blow and they can loose there license for collecting debt. Now im not urging you to try and entrap the people into doing this however if they do explain the call has been recorded the data protection act has been breached and you want to speak to there manager.
Theres a good chance you will get the debt written off.
The rma guys had a software which managed the debts. Built into it was payment processing part which accepted a arrangement, a partial payment a "PIF" payment in full and "SIF" settlement in full
If you suggest of SIF of minimum 70% depending on the collector you may get a chance to clear it.
Rma employ skip chasers they use the electoral role to track you down so if you dont speak to them expect post
They teach there staff (no sure if its true) that the legal deffinition of harrassment is more that 3 calls in a day.
Hope this helps
Hi
Thanks for an insiders view of things, and I'm pleased that you've decided to pursue a career in another industry!
Unfortunately what you've described is all too familiar to people on this forum on 'the other side of the telephone'.

hi i managed to get a settlement with these people in the end! . after paying them regular for 18 months i got a letter syaing they were taking me to court for missing payments! the letters were coming 3 times a week after refusing to speak to them previously i had to ring up!! so i did a i managed to speak to some nice!!!!!! shock horror! i explained about the letters and the guy said its says heere your not been paying? i siad im sat at the computer looking at my online banking and i will give you evey payemnt for the last 18 months? the guy was like i dont understand were these letters are coming from so he passed me on..... this other person wasnt so nice he said i had missed payment was threatening me on the phone for full amount of monye. I was calm and told him the call was been recored he said i should have told him at the begin of the conversation i said i did to his collegue! i explained we had agread the payment and what they are doing is harrassing me i had stuck to what they told me to. he said ther was no proof of this i explained that i had 18month worth of bank statment showing the payments i also had all letter sent out to me. i was saying i was going to take it further the phone went dead.... how ever the next day the bloke i spoke to first rang me back beacuse and offered me a settlement this was another 300 pounds the debt which left me with 178 to pay! i did and they were gone for ever yeah!!!!!!
i really feel for people dealing with them! if they refuse payments on the letters they send out is there bank deatils set up a standing order to the account of what you can afford to pay. send your finacal status out going recoreded delivery. and most of all report them! if you can settle after a few months dont tell them when you can coze they will prob ask for full amount when the time come.pay what you can then ring/or answer your phone to them and they will make you an offer more then likely thinking you cant pay it with a discount. but if you have the cash then do it as there out your hair.
I hope every one does report these people yes we were silly getting ourself in debt but a least we want to do something about it! been bullied doesnt help any one .0 -

Refusing to speak to RMA on the phone at all - that's the best solution. Everything in writing.
It's also my belief that if you feel payment has to be made, then it should be made with the original creditor. Debts (especially older ones) get passed around so often that after a while, even the original creditor doesn't know which agency has it. That's one reason why I discourage anyone from paying a DCA.0 -
I spoke to RMA on the phone and thrashed out a deal that Is really stretching things for the next few months - they confirmed today by email but no letter yet.
What are my options? - I owe 10600 with Barclaycard
Re: Barclaycard
In reference to our recent conversation, we can advise you that Barclaycard have agreed to accept the sum of £3300.00 as full and final settlement of your current outstanding balance of £10,687.54.
This means that £2500.00 must be received in this office not later than the 31st December 2010.
And the remaining £700 in the office by the 31/01/11.
Failure to pay the agreed amount within the agreed timeframe will render this agreement null and void. The full outstanding balance will then be due and payable in full immediately.
Please contact RMA on 01772 833041 upon receipt of this email to confirm payment.
Yours sincerely,
For and on behalf of Risk Management Alternatives International Limited

the credit card was taken out whilst at uni in the late nineties - should I insist on seeing the credit agreement0

can anybody help ?0

gymbobbing, did YOU take the credit card out?
You say you have thrashed a deal out with these people, knowing what they are like that only means they thrashed you to get moneys from you.
I'm not too sure how you can get out of this agreement tbh, I hope that someone with greater knowledge than I will come along shortly.
In the meantime look through the entire thread (be careful tho' some of the rules may have changed) and you may want to start a new thread.
Especially look at how you can write to them to say you will no longer deal with them over the phone, get everything in writing, and I mean EVERYTHING.
I can only wish you the best against these 'people' :silenced:0 -

yes

yes but I am waiting to agree it in writing - effectively paying back £3300 of £10600

I haven't signed anything or actually commited to anything0 -
Well, if you took the card out, and presumably spent that amount, then you'll have to pay it back, that of course may be over-simplifying matters, and you may well have reasons to believe that this I'm wrong.
It seems to me (and correct me if I'm wrong) that you accept that you have to pay this back, but can't afford the amounts they've asked for.
If you don't feel you are able to pay the amount you're being asked for each month/week then you need to address that with them, because once you've signed on the dotted line they will hound you for the money, a longer term payment plan may be required.
Here's some links around the site that I hope will help...

Yes you should insist on seeing the Credit Agreement, it gives you huge bargaining power as they won't have anything (probably)if its from the late 90's.
When did you last make a payment on this alleged debt?I'm Debt Free :j 2/09/2013
