Personally, I think RMA are idiots.
They are dealing with a Barclaycard debt of mine, and despite the fact that I have setup a standing order and started making payments of £45 per month, they attempt to call me almost every day. I have written to them twice, emailed them 3 times, and they just dont acknowledge anything.
I have now complained to Barclaycard about their behaviour, but I doubt that they will care.
I have also told them that I am now not paying more than £1 per month to them until they acknowledge my correspondence to them and agree a repayment plan.
They are the most aggressive and stupid outfit that I have come across in my DMP dealings, and I've dealt with quite a few...:(0 -
been in a dmp for 3 months now with the cccs and last week i started getting hassled by these clowns rma.
barclays bank (overdraft) are refusing to accept my dmp total debt is £119.00 and have handed it over to rma
so far 15 phone calls every single one of them by rude bully boy thugs.
on the 1st call i tried to explain that i was in a dmp and barclays have recieved 3 payments so far i gave them the cccs ref number and asked them to speak to the cccs thug on the phone said they dont deal with the cccs and that they want full payment of £119.00. so i asked him what about the 3 payments that the cccs have made to barclays for this debt not our problem you owe so pay.
i rung the cccs for some advice and they told me to ignore rma they will continue to make payments to barclays as normal.
i have since recieved a letter from barclays saying that they will no longer deal with me regarding this debt and have handed it over to rma.
so i dont know where i stand now rma will not regonise that i have already paid back £45.00 of the debt and barclays have washed there hands of me.
today i got threats off rma that baliffs will be coming round to remove my property i asked how can they do that when i have not been taken to court ? and got a load of abuse of how im a bad person for borrowing money and not paying it back .
talk about kick a man when hes down, i really hope some of these morons that work at rma fall into debt and end up on the the recieving end of there scum tactics .0 -
I have to say, I don't have any dealings with these people. I used to work for them. Please don't take it out on the staff, trust me, the way they deal with you is enforced by the managers in the office. They are there to do a job, and it pays well for a workforce who are mostly students. I lasted just over a year, but hated the job so left. I know many staff who got told off by their managers for not being tough enough on the people they were calling, and when you make outbound calls all day the frustration can set in when there are a lot of irresponsible people unlike yourselves who won't stop burying their heads in the sand and just hang up. I'm sorry you have all had a bad experience, I must admit they are a company I'm glad to have no more dealings with. But sharpygreen, the staff aren't all morons.0

Hi tigger
Well done for jumping ship with RMA! I note everything you say about the staff but i'm sorry to say i can't agree with you. If you are dealing with members of the public/customers/clients/debtors then a degree of common courtesy is called for and indeed those being contacted by the call centre have a right to expect such a courtesy. Frankly if someone is reasonable with me then i will be reasonable with them. They are also far more likely to get my cooperation and the payment they are chasing (or at least an agreement to pay).
The excuse of being bullied by managers simply doesn't wash as what staff will be judged on will be their recovery rate not whether or not they are pleasant to those they are calling.
RMA seem to employ people who enjoy bullying people and causing as much hurt as possible ending with minimal results (sorry tigger i wasn't aiming that at you)

Hi
This is my first time on the forum!
Barclays Bank have passed my overdraft over to RMA after I found myself out of work for the first time in 27 years dues to illness. I offered to pay them £5 per month but they were very very bullying, would not listen to me, told me to borrow money and asked me where my benefit money had gone (even though I said to them that this does not cover my rent - other half is paying all the bills). I am aware I owe money to them but surely they have to agree some sort of payment plan - they are asking for £100 per month - hello I have mentioned I have no money only about 20 times. These phone calls are very very upsetting and now I have a card with they will be contacting me on saturday. Should I pay them or let someone else take over the debt (as threatened by them) ?
They do not have a sympathetic bone in there body........
I am so stressed by all this - any help please ? ?
thank you0 -
For a start don't answer any calls from them. Once you realise that to these people you are just a number on a sheet of paper then you will be able to deal with them in a calm manner. They have no emotions and neither should you.
Have a look around the other threads on this site and you will find a lot of people who have been through the same thing and are more than willing to offer help, advice and support. The main thing is to keep everything in writing so you know exactly what is being offered & said.
Remember, the worst thing these guys can do is get a court judgement against you (most times it doesn't get that far) and frankly that isn't the end of the world.
Keep smiling Sarahjane!0 -
Many thanks for that - I have calmed down a bit reading all the posts.....Least I know what to do now!
Cant take me house dont own it! Ha Ha
There is great advise on these forums I will keep returning.

Stop speaking to them on the phone & refuse to answer security questions if they ring you - insist everything in writing only.
Report them to the OFT & trading standards if you wish...0 -

This isn't always people burying their heads in the sand. I've lost count of the amount of times I've tried to explain something to a DCA who is clearly working from a script and just can't comprehend anything that is not on it. I even had on girl tell me she couldn't send out a letter replying to my question as it wasn't one on her list!
Put simply, DCA's are more likely to get paid if they are decent to the people they talk to.
If you have someone who won't pay, bullying will make sod all difference to them as they will just ignore you, abuse you, hang up on you etc. All you are doing is working yourself up over someone who will not pay however you treat them. It will not matter how you talk to these people as they have made up their minds you are not getting any money.
If however you are talking to a can't pay, bullying will do one of two things -
1) stress them out so much that they get ill (happened to me, I ended up in hospital) or in a worst case scenario lead to suicide (thankfully never got close to that one)
2) cause them to find out what their rights are, which in my case led me to a help forum which showed me that the DCA's have absolutely no powers; lie, cheat and abuse in order to meet targets, and more often than not don't even hold the document that allows them to legally collect money.
My situation was one I found myself in due to illness and very bad luck; a similar situation I suspect to many many people in debt. I tried to work things out with creditors, but many passed me onto DCA's.
I have one DCA who has treated me with respect and courtesy. One. Out of seven. That one DCA however is the one that I pay what I can despite the fact they don't have an agreement for the account.
I was, and sadly still am, a can't pay, but the bullying and threatening tactics of the DCA's I dealt with has turned me into a can't pay that knows her rights and will not take the rubbish they spout any more.
The trouble is DCA workers know nothing of the rights of a person with debt. They assume because they work there they know all, that everything the manager says is gospel and that all debtors can pay really but actually decide it's easier to put up with the harassment from some 18 year old who rings them 15 times a day.
There just isn't an argument for how DCA's are 'just doing their job' which can justify the treatment they mete out to people. I can't think of another industry which decides the best way to deal with people is to abuse first in case they are dealing with a dodgy person who might not do what they want!Te audire no possum. Musa sapientum fixa est in aure.0 -
Don't bite to Tigger1910's post and get riled!
1 post and new member says everything you need to know, and even though the poster seemed to have some moral values hence no longer working for a DCA you can still see the attitudes that people in debt are dealing with.
Putting the phone down immediately isn't burying your head in the sand but the only reaction reasonable people make when faced with continuous phonecalls, bullying and harrassment.
I agree with his comment though that not all DCA staff are morons. There are no doubt a few who actually enjoy their job and the harrassment and distress they cause. They are not morons, they have enough intellect to know exactly what they are doing and the word I would use would probably get my post reported as abuse!
