I have not had any dealings with this company personaly. I am always polite to people as I know shouting and swearing will get you nowhere. I thank you for your reply and for you explaining why.
But I have also read on this site about how nasty some companys can be, they have also been called names, sworn at, had threats and have been disrespected.0 -
No self respecting person who is out to make a living should be rude to a customer or a clients customer, if i did that now i would be fired!
Most of the replies i have seen have been with people dealing with barclaycard who are made to be aggressive and persistent on the phone, it's wrong and shouldn't happen.
One thing i have noticed however is a lot of the posts do seem to be more about "Getting one over the Big Bad Collectors" rather than paying an amount owed. If you can pay then pay, if you can't go to the CCCS, Paypal or your local CAB. be aware though that some (not all) local CAB advisors are not very helpful and thamselves too become smart, pedantic and unhelpful and only make things worse as the people with the phones get angry and begin to border on harrassment.
RMA should not degrade humans by being unproffesional and rude but please don't do yourselves a damage by worrying, getting wound up and being rude or angry, and don't try and get one over on them. to have a personal battle with them is silly. as the old saying goes "you may win the battle (RMA) but you won't win the War (The creditor)". they will take things further
P.S. if they find out who i am they'll go mad but any debts bought by RMA can be settled at around 80%, bear that in mind if you can get the money together
P.P.S. RMA only open between 8 and 8 so if they ring past then it's not them and they can only legally make contact be it speaking with you or leaving a message, TWICE a day.
bloody hell i don't half go on!! nybody wanna ask me anything about how debt collection agencies work or what goes on in the mind of a debt collector, feel free, i will reply as soon as possible.0 -

Thanks for this Mac Daddy.
I'm interested in 80%. I've heard lots about 50% settlement from other postings - 80% seems quite high.
Can you also confirm that interest is frozen when the debt moves across to RMA Resolve?
Finally is there a level of monthly payment that triggers different actions. When I was negotiating my DMP, MBNA would not really let me negotiate less than one sixtieth of the total debt as a monthly repayment. For others 1% of the total debt seemed significant.

80% is quite high, but it's something i suppose. the minimum you can pay is £1, and as long as that is being paid then they have to be satisfied, they won't be pleased but that's life!
However, a £1 token payment will not stop defaults etc. MBNA aren't the easiest of creditors to deal with, they're even hard work when you ring them from RMA. if your with Resolve your normally with a Debt Management "Consultantcy" and they will generally make nominal payments to your creditors and keep a 40% fee, look into free ones if you are.
Having not worked there for well over a year, i d on't know if R€solve still works in the same way. if it does then they offer plansd to help but you have to pay creditors yourself. it would be best to go elsewhere if possible.
interest isn't frozen straight away, from what i can remember it's 3 months after instruction that interest is stopped, different terminoligy used than frozen, purely because it's not frozen, it could start again if they want it to, but they never want it to!0 -
I am paying RMA for an American Express debt and on the whole have found them to be fair. I've been dealing with them for about 5 and a half years now. I have recently sent them an increased offer of payment and a stamped addressed envelope to reply to me. But I've heard nothing other than a few messages on the phone to ring them. I have no intention of phoning them either. I have asked they inform me of my balance left owing (interest was frozen or so they told me at the time).0

I am not doing this at all, i now work for one of the UK's major banks arranging mortgages, although i cannot prove this i think it is rude and obnoxious to discount everything i said. It is ok for you to say i am trolling for RMA, but you know nothing of me or who i am, i am only trying to help
I didnt say you were trolling I said it SOUNDED like like you were, a big difference but then you were too busy being defensive to notice that. You see thats the problem with RMA whilst you may think you are being helpful to us customers you come across as defensive. In misunderstanding what I have written you then call me rude and obnoxious. This is exactly what happens when people call RMA.
RMA are a phone based company, they do not write letters or send bailiffs, their client passes the debt on to solicitors and then bailiffs if RMA are unsuccessful.
It is unacceptable to expect people who are already in debt to have to phone a premium rate number to discuss their options. As I said in my previous post, I dont have a phone and if I did I can ill afford to stump up money for a premium rate number
I myself worked on RMA Resolve, they are a free service who offers plans for you to work from, they generally are nice people as if your debt is passed to them it is because AMEX realise you need help and offer it via them. If you have arranged to pay each month DO NOT WORRY! they will leave you alone and every six months will call for an update.
They are not free, see premium rate number above.
and 030's attitude is exactly what i mean by renegade, just be polite, its the best advice i can offer, they won't leave you alone but in the end it will be as painless as possible as you will get someone there who is helpful. i'd love to give names of people who would help but i can't for obvious reasons.
This is plainly ridiculous, I have been polite to RMA at every turn, how can you presume to know what has been said between me and RMA? This is the second time youve made false assumptions about me, is this how you treated people when you were working for RMA? It is you I take issue with for dismissing peoples comments. There are serious issues being raised about RMA, are you saying that we are all at fault and they are right because I can tell you categorically that RMA have not been the benevolent, caring agency that you portray to me.
and again for 030, if there is any way to prove to you and the others i am an EX employee i would love to do so.
I'm really not interested if you do or dont, as I said before you sounded as if you were trolling for RMA not you were...maybe all RMA operatives are as defensive as you and thats why some of us get such a bad service?
I REALLY AM ONLY TRYING TO HELP
As I'm sure you genuinley thought that when you worked for them but by your own admission you were rude to people and you've shown from your post that you get defensive and then abusive when you wrongly perceive you are being attacked.0 -

Easy to provide evidence.
When did you cease working for RMA?
Are you working for any company that puts business to RMA?
On what date did you last have any communication with RMA, members of its staff or recent employees? If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0 -
According to debtcollector, RMA offer re-mortgages with another company, settlement for not less than 60%, or a debt management arrangement
macdaddy 1984, please can you explain why you think it is ever appropriate for someone to secure debt against their house?
I appreciate that this give RMA the option of securing a charge or forcing a sale but from the point of view of the client, this extremely dangerous.
And with respect to forcing a higher payment, if you read these pages, what you will find is that ultimately what you force is bankruptcy, as clients feel that this is the only way to stop the phone calls. So then you get next to nothing.
Is that really in the interests of the original debt provider or the client?
I would suggest not, but it is OK for RMA.If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0 -

I ceased working for them in september 2005, i work for a bank who aranges only our own mortgages and i deal with new customers, not existing or one's in poor credit and no they do not have any direct links to RMA
I spoke to an employee probably over a year ago, i currently work with 3 ex employees of RMA who have moved on to other roles as they weren't suited there in the past.0 -
