  • ah that kind of sucks...just have confidence in your numbers, you're only human at the end of the day. I take it you feel pressure due to your dad being in the same field?

have you been directed to the make £10 a day threads and stuff? You might be able to put some towards your wedding fund, and you might also get some great cashback deals as well...

  • Have been feeling really down for the last few days but now I'm lower than ever - I think everything is just getting to me a bit and I feel like I don't have anyone to talk to.

Debt wise, I know I can cover everything if I'm made redundant because of the amount I have in savings (see - I knew there was a reason to have savings) but I just don't see the point in travelling in every day to a job I hate where I get no thanks for the work I do... But what else would I do?

  • Do you not speak to your fiancee about it? Remember there are always us...I dont speak to my OH about it until it gets too much and then i end up a crying, snotty mess, because he just doesnt take things seriously enough, an he has extremely minimal debts. I'm always here for a chat :)

In terms of your job, I really dont know. i'm a secretary and I think that daily. I'm fed up of the job that I do, but I worked straight after school, and the only qualififcations i have are GCSE's and NVQ's in admin. I want to change my career but I would have no idea where to start...the only thing i want to be is a midwife, but i cant do that...too long to go into on a post...but i have a phobia that would render me useless!

Did you always want to work in construction? is there anything else that piques your fancy, or that you're good at?

I know its awful when you get that dreaded feeling for ages about work, but it's easier said than done to just pack it in. Are you still a possibility for redundancy? That might be the thing to spur you on to do what it is you really want to...perverse as it sounds!

Keep your chin up and *hugs*

  • I've tried talking to OH but he just comes out with "you're very good at your job" - but he doesn't know that! It's so frustrating, all I want him to do is listen but he tries to give me solutions, and there just aren't any.

I've tried talking to my dad but he just tells me that I need to toughen up and I can't "just be a girl about it" and that if I want to stay in the industry, I need to learn that things will only get harder.

I'm walking around with a permanent lump in my throat - I know that I take things too personally. I just don't know how to look at things objectively.

When I was younger, I wanted to work in law, but it's too late (and expensive) for me to even consider that now.

I'm sorry to hear all the uncertainty is making how you feel about work worse.

Sometimes I think men need to be told that we're not asking them to provide solutions and that what we really want is for them to LISTEN well and try to understand what we're feeling. That's it. Nothing else!!

I sat my OH down many years ago and explained this and he is so much better now.

  • i dont think its a case of taking things too personally...when you dont get advice or just an ear to moan in, and you just get rebuffed it's like banging your head on a brick wall and it just makes it worse. I know that a law degree is hugely expensive and very long, one of my friends is only just doing her masters after about 6 years of studying, which with a full time job I think would be too much. Can you not volunteer at any organisations andget some experience? That way you can do it in your spare time. What kind of law did you want to get into? there may be other things you can do, without being a fully fledged lawyer if you know what i mean?

  • I have decided to stop moping and just deal with each thing as it comes. I can't influence my job security - I just need to get a proper CV ready just in case the worst does indeed happen.

  • I'll probably get my OH & my dad to do it... I've never had a CV before.

By the way, I've also subscribed to your diary - good luck with moving out.
