I always get the !!!!!! mixed up. I think you should have the Freezer as full as possible and that way it will run more economically, so put bottles of water in. Can anyone confirm this for me please?

    Yes, you're right.

Fridges should also be reasonably full, but with room for air to circulate, so bottles of water can also be put in them (and you then have cold water to drink/put in the freezer so it doesn't have to work so hard to freeze them - and if you're filling the freezer, you can put the frozen bottles in the fridge to defrosts as these will keep the fridge cool!

Phew just updated the MFi3 thread with my findings! There are a some flyladies who are part of the challenge (think one has not updated for a while). Some great savings being made on the mortgages.

Done no flying as we had church this morning, homework when we got back and then surfing/updating on here!

£19????? Are you hooked up to the streetlights or something??? :p

OK... will do one when I have finished my presentation!

As some of you already know, I work for an energy supplier, and have no intention of paying my own salary, so make sure I use as little as possible. (And yes, I'm still in credit)

In the meantime, you can do an energy savers report on the british gas website and donate points to your local school (http://www.britishgas.co.uk/energy-efficiency/energy-savers-report.html?WT.seg_3=i100208) If you don't have a local school participating, you can donate to mine or Valli's ;)

Also think about signing up to imeasure (www.imeasure.org.uk) to track your usage. There's an MSE carbon club on there, which I'll check the details on and post them here...

My kettle I only put enough to cover the bottom and a bit extra as that's enough for a cup for me, then if I wait it doesn't take long and as soon as I hear it boiling I turn it off. Usually if I shake the kettle I can see the water level just above the thing which shows how much water is in it and that's enough. Usually the 1 cup level is enough for 2 mugs of drink. Mr G puts loads in but I don't.

I'm trying to get on with things today. Just cleared my top drawer next to my side of the bed and it was grim! Chucked about half of the stuff in there away *gross smiley*, however at least it's done now!
Fluttering about an inch off the ground, I may fly properly one day and soar in the clouds!

    Hi all,

I haven't done any flying this weekend  . I have kept up with the dailies so it's not too bad. We went for a walk in the woods yesterday. We decided to go a different way to where we usually go and the path was blocked by massive muddy puddles. I got my foot stuck trying to get passed with Ds2:rolleyes:. I don't think we'll be going that way for a while.

Today we've been swimming then over to OH's house for lunch. Ds2 has never liked swimming and spent the first half an hour clung to us shaking. He started enjoying himself and by the end was going down the slide without anyone catching him.

Greenbee i'd be interested in the energy saving masterclass please.

I haven't caught up with the thread so hope all is well.

If you have a freezer compartment on your fridge, and both are currently fairly empty, it's a good time to defrost them.

Once you've done this, see what you can move from your chest freezer into the freezer compartment in the fridge, and if there really isn't much in the chest freezer, plan to use it up quickly (put things in the fridge to defrost slowly, and that'll keep it cool).

Then defrost your chest freezer, and don't switch it back on until you need it. When you do, try to do a big shop/batch cooking to fill it up reasonably quickly, and as Hawthorn said, make sure you cool everything completely before putting it into the fridge or freezer. It won't come to any harm sitting on the side in the kitchen to cool down for a few hours (although cakes seem to risk being eaten  )

If you don't have a debt with Southern Electric, you can ask them to change your token meter to a credit one. If your credit record isn't great, they may ask for a deposit. Once you have a credit meter, you can then shop around for the best tariff (online ones are usually best).

Make sure you do regular meter readings, so you know how many kilowatt hours you are using (ideally you need a 12 month figure based on two actual readings) in order to work out which deal is really best for you. This goes for all of you... don't switch based on what your DD is, or the company that offers you the lowest DD, as you don't want to get into debt by paying less than you need to.
