besides which - if I WAS having a 'visitor' I am sure he would be far too busy to look under the bed:rotfl:

pigpen - I wouldn't be happy if mine went for a sleepover with no parent there. On the one occasion when it went horribly wrong, the girls' parents went out for a meal, then went to bed (remember when I had a phone call to say DD was totally drunk, and then one of the lads ended up knifing another??). I had checked they'd be there, but hadn't realised they'd be going out for a meal. Personal experience means I wouldn't put that kind of responsibility on my teens either.
Jennybee - I'm really glad you cleared out the study - you've kept me very amused this afternoon!!:D
gryfon - yes, you could have a photo of the livingroom - it was totally shovelled out for Christmas, and is going to stay that way until the carpets are fitted! You may not have a photo of my bedroom or the garage which is where all ther surplus contents are currently stored... Please also bear in mind that my youngest is now 14, and previous to flying you would not have been allowed into any room in my house.;)
Off to run the vacuum round, then bit of paperwork and a cup of tea.
Sarah - very happy to hear the news is better. Thoughts and prayers ongoing.

Hope to have a break at some point in the day to go to the bank and put petrol in the car. Been to the bank and have filled the car up with diesel
Kids will be back soon then I will be at an even slower pace.
Need to get master bed sorted out has lots of stuff on the bed and need to replace the bedsheets.
I have enjoyed my first week. I have done more than I would have done and now I feel like there is hope to a clean house.

This has put me off buying anything ever again!

Heard about that on the radio - awful way to go, and she used to have to stay around friends when her house was too full too...I hate stuff in my house - I'd just have sofas and beds if I could - easy to keep clean and tidy then... Imagine trying to declutter that lot!
Jeremy Vine on now about that woman crushed to death by stuff.
Ok I need a reality check/slap...my children aren't going to hate me when they're older that most of their stuff is sale goods/given to us/hand me downs are they?
Personally, I think it sets them a good example that they don't have to spend loads of money to get what they want, that recycling is good and that sometimes there isn't the money and you are doing what you can for them anyway - didn't do me any harm, in fact I think they all have too much now anyway, I never had half what they have now and I survived (OK, maybe I am old and going a bit "in my day.... coal for Christmas... cardboard box for presents...lol)
Oh, and just quickly, on the games/video/TV front, I must hold up my hands and say DS & DD have watched loads of stuff they shouldn't have because we were, DD (19) is a horror film freak and always has been since she was young, she loves them (I personally HATE them) but she is honestly a lovely, well rounded girl who would abhors violence and would never go crazy in a cinema with a chain saw or anything,
DS (15) is a different kettle of fish, but has been known to play 'driver' on his playstation just running people over and crashing, and getting caught by the police - not actually playing the game to the next level... I am hoping that this is now out of his system and he won't do it when actually driving on the roads now...:rotfl:
To be honest, he doesn't play on them any more, is more into girls now (which is even scarier - some of the photos they send him are verging on pornographic!!! why do young girls want to push their t*ts up and pout like Jordan into a camera?) and is permanently on MSN chatting, that is where I put time limits and restrictions (he has to use our computer, so is limited anyway).
Maybe I'm a bad mum for doing this, and maybe we did over-compensate with 'stuff' because I had to work, but I have great kids with good manners and who are helpful (to others, hopeless indoors) and I think the main thing is to teach them rules, boundaries, that education is important, and how not to follow a pack and to be an individual - that saying no to something doesn't make you weak, it makes you strong and being there for them when they need you (and even if they think they don't) can overcome any car game or toy gun that is given to them.
THIS IS JUST MY OPINION - please do not take offence as I do not mean to offend, I am not knocking or criticising any of you out there who do different, I think someone said that whatever works for you - this has worked for us and I am sure what you do works for you - it would have been much better for my kids if I had kept them innocent for longer - you only have one childhood after all - but love and support are all encompassing and I think that is what is lacking in most families and why we have problems with kids now... Ohh, sorry, that turned into a bit of a ranty soapbox affair, OK, moving on, nothing to see here...LBM April 2013 - £29,000.00Vanquis CC's PAID - Debenhams SC PAID - A+L OD PAID - Asda CC £783.75Barclaycard CC £1400.78 - BoS CC PAID - Freemans Cat PAIDF/D Loan & CC £1458.96 - Santander Loan PAID - Mum Loan PAIDRBS OD PAID - F/D OD £1026.52Weekly Grocery Challenge - £95.00 budget / spend £-0 -

:T I aim to please! Just told OH about the christmas decoration we bought and he went "cool - we'll put that up next year!" There is no hope for us!!
I don't think it's necessarily fair to call it the study having thought about it..."dumping ground" would be more accurate.
Oh..one to add to the list of things on my desk.....a tennis ball! I feel like I'm in an episode of "The Generation Game"! All I need is a cuddly toy and I'll be there!Jonathan Douglas born 20th January 2009 - 9lb 4oz
