. It certainly puts things into perspective, sod the MPG/low tax I want something SAFE.

Sorry to go on, i'm just so upset.

Really sad to hear this but glad your Dad seems OK.

The reality of what you said above is very true and we are all often guilty of thinking about MPG, Insurance and even more often shiny toys such as sat nav etc when we buy a car.
I have always said it's not the age of the car thats important but the age of that particular model, they have become safer and safer especially in recent years.

Best wishes to you and your Dad in getting through this.

  • Thanks everyone, your support on here has been fantastic! Dad is still improving well and I am goint to speak to someone about him getting some councelling to try and help him deal with things.

OK on a lighter note, I have been looking at cars with a 5 NCAP rating. Test drove the new Seat Ibiza today....omg my ears are still ringing! It is the noisiest car I have EVER been in! So thats another one crossed off the list! I will never find a new car at this rate, especially because my priorities keep changing!

Back to money saving, last few days I have spent a fortune in petrol but not at lot else. I haven't picked up any new MSs, I have two outstanding over the next couple of weeks but that will probably be enough as I will be needed more to help out with transport etc. for my Mum.

Anyway, off for a glass of wine and to watch Emerdale on Sky+:rotfl:

Well if you want a quiet ride then you'll be heading for Jaguar, BMW or Mercedes then? :rotfl:
The noise in my Jag is mainly generated by the road and when you get on a new tarmac section on the motorway then it is amazing how quiet it is cruising at the speed limit :D

TPA best wishes to your dad for a full recovery both physically and emotionally, a tragic accident but I sincerely hope he does realise that it was just that and no blame is due to him. xx

    I second that.

Thanks everyone, I think things are getting worse at the moment.....but hopefully time will be a good healer.

Has anyone had any experience of the Seat Altea deisel? Its got a fantastic size boot and more importantly a 5* NCAP rating. Just want some opinions, good, bad or ugly!

  • TPA - I've been away for a bit, and have just been catching up with your diary. I'm really shocked to read about the accident.

Best wishes to your Dad for his recovery - and also to you, because it's hard when someone you love goes through this.

Ok car bought, I had my very sensisble head on - I've gone for...don't laugh..the Kia Ceed, 60+ mpg, £35 a year tax, 6 years, yes 6(!) remaining maufacturers warrenty and drove like a good 'un, I was amazed how 'punchy' it was, going by details online I thought it was going to be very slow off the mark (need a decent bit of omph for roundabouts I find!) Most importantly its got a 5* NCAP rating.
I haggled well:money:, and also got a really good price for my car in part exchange as well as 12 months interest free credit. All thanks to Stuart pointing me towards the Parkers site enabling me to know exactly what I should get for my car and how much I should be looking to pay for my 'new' car.

Thank you Queen-Bee, its that horrible feeling of not being able to do anything to make things easier for him. But we will get there, we are all feeling more positive this evening-despite finding out he has also cracked his sternum (only just picked up on x-rays today:eek:)

TPA...my best wishes to you and your dad. Thats awful. I truly hope he has a speedy recovery both mentally and physically. My dad was involved in an accident where a little boy was run over and bounced onto the bonnet of my dads car (he was traveling in the opposite direction to the one that hit the kid first). My dad was in no way at fault but it has taken him time to get over it.

It is hard trying to help them realise that they were not at fault and that they have to accept it for what it is....an accident. But I'm sure he'll get their with your love and support. My thoughts are with you! x
