You know, one thing I love here is that when we point out sites etc for advice, they are both genuinely useful and people thank you for it :A
Do remember if you can't pop to your mum with flowers in-hand on TopCashBack you get a massive refund from Teleflorist!0 -

I've had a lovely day, been the beach had ice cream, sausage and chips (in that order!) and a massive walk! I'm not sure who is more tired me or the dog, he is snoring away next to me!! Not a very MS day but hay ho we all need a nice day once in while.

Well I've done a bit more car research and now I have a choice!
Astra Echoflex 1.7 D
Fiat Bravo 1.6 Dynamic Eco
Audi A3 1.9 TDI!
Just a little different!
Thanks to GG for the introduction to the Bravo!
I need at least a 1.6 due to work mileage paying more than 12p a mile more for a 1.6 engine over a 1.5 or below!!!:rotfl:Every little helps.

IMHO the Audi's are overpriced (1/2 the workforce here has them as a company car) - aren't they VW's anywayDK what discounts they give either
Plus insurance would be higher. They do hold value better, but then as they are so much dearer to start with....... Also, I always think that's not a good reason to buy - through no fault of your own you could end up with loads of little bumps & scratches which would drag down value anyway.
No idea about Vauxhalls.
Try https://www.perrys.co.uk for prices then see if local garage will match or better.

Yeh! Sausage instead of a flake in the 99!:rotfl:
GG thanks for all your help, that site is a good starter for negotiations with local garages....although my brain has left me and i'm still angling towards the Audi:eek:

Have to be honest, we're currently looking at an A3 or A4 diesel as well. They're so nice inside, and pretty much bullet proof, and they hold their value well, we briefly considered some cheaper alternatives, but they depreciate like a falling rock and we don't have good experiences of reliability with Seats or Vauxhalls. suprisingly my Alfa which are known to be a bit tempermental has been pretty okay save for a leaky windscreen and the handbrake cable once went.Debt January 1st 2018 £96,999.81Met NIM 23/06/2008
Debt September 20th 2022 £2991.68- 96.92% paid off0 -

Dinah, the A3 1.9e deisel does average 63 mpg and only £35 tax per year. The newer 1.6TDI does a few more miles to the gallon and is also a lower insurance group - 8 rather than the 1.9 which is a 10:eek:. There are a few to choose from locally in dealerships, 09 plates with anything from 7 - 12k on the clock for £15,995, the trouble is I cannot find a 'NEW' price for these so have no idea what sort of deal that is!
This is certainly a heart ruling the head for me.....I WANT ONE!Some one needs to kick me into touch and theres you telling me to go for it!:rotfl:

Find some quotes for the typical annual service and parts like brake discs you may have to get replaced. Any difference in service intervals etc?
That said, I am hardly going to tell you not to select something you like even if it is a bit more expensive am I?
If like me you spend some time in the car each week day and in my case it's 28miles on motorway and dual carriageway, then comfort and safety in event of a crash are essential. Check the NCAP ratings for the options you have in mind and JD Power survey on reliability.0
