I'm such a plonker, when I first posted we were in the middle of moving all our funds around and paying off some 'stooging' credit cards.
Now that I have sat down and gone over the maths and accounted for the two 'stooging' cards still to be paid off - we actually have £27,000 in savings...nearly fainted when I realised. We have been saving hard for a single story extension...though whether we will ever be brave enough to spend the money and get it..who knows!
For now we will 'tighten our belts' (hubbys expresion!) and see how much more we can save.

PS will go and update my sig now!!MFW - We've only gone and blooming done it!May 2013:j0 -
Welcome to MFW TPA! Sounds like you've made a good start - it is amazing where you can make small savings that all add up. I see the spreadsheet addicts have already got to you as well! :rotfl:
We're doing the "Live from the freezer" thing as well at the moment - I found that a full inventory of freezer and storecupboard contents proved to be helpful. Remember also to collect vouchers wherever you can towards your shopping too - every little helps, as they say! Have you checked out the threads over on the Old Style board? There is plenty over there that you might find really helpful.
Good luck - I look forward to following your thread.🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡

I think I'd better collate the data on this to see if it's true0 -
EH, are you saying Gallygirl, SMF2 and I are addicts???
I think I'd better collate the data on this to see if it's true
This clearly shows the correlation between posting regularly on here and increased spreadsheet addiction, however, in my opinion it fails to fully show the related increase in determination to pay off the mortgage. Hope this saves you some work StuartA positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effortMortgage Balance = £0

Hi TPA....good luck with your quest.
I find another quick win at this time of year is to use the money you'd pay in Council Tax and Water Rates (assuming you pay 10 months out of 12) and pay it straight off the mortgage, for us it's about £400 in two months which would be coming out the account anyway, so we don't miss it.
Good luck with the no alcohol, not sure if I could quite manage a year without.

Single story - between 17 - 24,000:eek:
Double Story (is that whats its called?) - 30,000 - 40,000:eek:
When we were looking to move about 3 years ago we sadi we would only buy a house with two loos!!! Ahem well the house we choose only has one bathroom! To cut a long story short to enable us to get a down stairs loo we need to extend into the 'side return' behind the garage, we will get a much bigger size kitchen diner out of this too though.......but all those £££££
