  • Ok HBS point taken. You are speaking from your own personal experience. However Moonjelly was demonstrating by her own experience that it doesn't have to be that way for everybody and has done very well out of it, maintaining the loss etc which is exactly what I'm hoping to get out of this diet. My point is to ask you not to judge everyone else by your own outcomes and assume that they will all fail too.

Wait, wait. I think you got me confused with another poster who already lost the weight! I haven't started the diet yet.

I did Atkins a long time ago (I didn't know it was a diet -long story). I lost a lot of weight without meaning to. It was fine to have a list of things which were acceptable. We are talking 15 years ago. Nowadays I find the weight very stubborn to shift so I am looking for a boost to keep me motivated.

I've been looking into Slimming world and came across this thread. I've never heard of this product until i had read thisand to be hoenst i doubt i could name 10 celebrities!

Anyhow,What i have come to understand is that you have a shake for breakfast, a shake for lunch and a 'plain' healthy meal like grilled chicken and veg for dinner?
The shakes stop you being hungry so basically you loose weight by barely eating. Is it safe? I've read the ingredients which i understand are not fab at all but in the interest of loosing weight is this a healthy way to do it? Surely if you did this for a month or two there would be bad affects on your body and as soon as you start eating food for breakfast and lunch the weight will just pile straight on meaning you may want to stay on the shakes for long term which i can't see being good.

Would this be better to kick start myself for slimming world so i can see weight drop before i get into a healthy eating way of life?

All I can offer is my personal experience so far as someone who is actually on CS at the moment, rather than anyone who trashes the idea without actually trying it.

I'm 3 weeks in and so far have lost just over half a stone. Not a drastic weight loss but a manageable one, certainly not the "quick fix" that some people assume it to be. I have a CS meal replacement for breakfast and dinner and a healthy, balanced low-carb lunch (that regime just happens to suit my lifestyle atm). CS meal replacements aren't only shakes, there are smoothies, bars and soups too. They also do snack bars but I vary this with Atkins snack bars, fruit, cheese, low fat yoghurt and raw nuts.

I had a headache and felt sluggish for a few days at first but I was expecting this as its a result of my body adjusting to the new eating habits. I also suspect that it was carb withdrawl!

The biggest change I've noticed is in my energy levels - I feel fantastic! I have more energy now than I've had in years, I sleep better, my mind is sharper and I can exercise for longer without getting tired. I don't get hungry or peckish so some days I need to remind myself to have my snacks between meals, also some days I need to remember to drink my 2L of water, but that's a small price to pay. When I've tried excluding carbs from my diet in the past I found that I really missed bread. I mitigated this somewhat this time around by resolving not to eat bread from the start of the year so this time I'm not missing it at all.

HBS is correct, there is a risk that once you stop and start eating 'normally' again you pile the weight back on. But that true for any diet, no? Someone on here (forget who) has done CS and managed to keep the weight off through still following the healthy eating guidelines in the diet plan and keeping carbs to a minimum. I plan to emulate that success.

    Good luck whatever you decide.

  • Don't get ripped off.... Buy the "Superdrug Meal Replacement Shakes" they are only 4.99 (or 2 for 6.99). They taste like a normal milkshake and are so so tasty :) I simply don't see the point in paying any more for what is the same diet AND why not drink the nice shakes :)

You'd have been better off joining us low carbers on the low carb thread!

what happens when the meal replacement stops and you go back onto proper food?

I think I will do this.

To be honest I only did CL for 2 weeks. My son was very sick and I was unable to get to Rowlands pharmacy and frankly too worried about my boy to be fiddling online.

I followed the diet to a "T". I only lost 1kg. . Of course I don't know if the -1kg was due to the diet or because I was so stressed.

I found the shakes so sugary they made me gag. The soups were better but my starter pack was full of the shakes. Looking at the soup I don't see how they are better than homemade low-calorie soups. So I'm moving to low-carb instead. :o
