Have added an %overpayment column in my spreadsheet for each month and for January it came to 387% (I blame you lot for this - you know who you are ;) )
    Not me, surely? :o
So for February (and to satisfy my obsession for neatness) I am adding £13 pound to this months total to give an overpayment for the two months of 500% (5 whole months extra this year so far) so I will be writing a cheque at the weekend for £238 (£105 left over food budget, £75 council tax, £40 cancelled gym membership, £5 current account interest)
    Very good progress, well done.

Feel like I have been quite slack this week, still havent paid in the cheque for Februarys OP but have had a rubbish week at work which has made me a bit misearable

On plus point today went out to the cinema and for a meal and I realised whilst queuing for tickets that I had forgot my purse so OH paid for both (serves him right for getting me up early) Went the morning show as it's cheaper :rotfl:

Paid cheque into bank, cheated and paid it in via the cash machine on Sunday so had a letter from the bank telling me that I shoudn't do this but they had corrected my current account and taken the money of the mortgage

Also mentioned a setting up a funds transfer link, no idea what this is so I'll have to give the bank a ring.

Also had a letter that my mortgage has been reduced due to the interest rate drop so its under £200/month  so I'll have to add the difference to the overpayment

Feeling a bit down in the dumps so haven't really been up to much, work is horrible at the moment and very busy, but just seem to be getting grief all the time, but its money coming in

Had my yearly statement for my ISA yesterday, got more interest than I thought I would with the rates coming down and paying in quite late in the year

Should be able to pay in £1440 when the tax year starts due to budgetting for it since Jan :j

On a happy point must go and get some holiday money as going away in 5 weeks so looking forward to it, bonus that my food budget for that month won't be much

Also OH was checking out his mortgage this morning, he's thinking of making an overpayment, what a copy cat but it benefits us both when we eventually sell (in this market) and buy 1 house

  • Hi radish. Just reading your diary and your doing really well. keep up the good work.:j I have also started overpaying mortgage but ours is a lot higher than yours and can be a bit disheartening as it is going to take quite a while to have any impact.

Try to look at your complete portfolio; if you have £1440 ready for the 2009-2010 Cash ISA then that is nearly 50% of the maximum you could put away. Try adding up all the positive things and compare with the "did nothing" situation, that should help you see the benefits I hope :A

Thanks for all the support, loving those smilies

Feeling a bit better today thinks its the lovely sunshine, have also been home to parents house and sat in the conservatory, lovely and peaceful, plus Dad paid for dinner with his lottery winings (4 numbers last week )

Wantabetterlife - good luck on your quest, sometimes I feel a bit of a fraud with having a small mortgage, got lucky and bought in 2001 just before they started going up in price, but well done on reducing your overdraft

On the ISA front can feel another page appearing in my spreadsheet/signature with the total and % paid in for the year, as that will give me a boost, what a brillant, simple idea
