Thanks for that, do you know what info they need? eg when they call do I need to make sure I have any figures to hand or is it discussing your situation, why you're in debt etc?
You'll be asked to fill out a financial statement, like a statement of affairs on here, so you'll need an idea of your expenditure along with details of your outgoings and income, also you'll need as recent as you have details of the debts, and details of any cars and assets. You'll also need the £90 fee. You'll also be able to give details about you like date and place of birth, addresses, occupation etc etc etc.

On your figures you're over the limit for a DRO:

    credit cards £12721
    overdraft 1 £1000
    overdraft 2 £1800

    Total £ 15521

I suggest chatting to CCCS or National Debtline to tease out the options that are open to you.

How long has everybody been waiting? Im coming up to the 8 week mark next week, im a bit worried as some of the debts have been passed on to collection agencys. I get a bit stressed over all the letter and phone calls and can't wait for it to stop.

I have been waiting 10 weeks now with the CCCS and they cannot tell me how much longer, only that it will be a number of weeks. I too feel like I am going out of my mind with all the letters and phonecalls. I don't answer the phone now and I regularly send creditors letters saying that the CCCS are advising me - the creditors choose to ignore these letters and probably don't believe me as its been going on so long.

To make matters worse, I have just separated from my husband and my income/expenditure have changed slightly as I have had to move back in with my parents. I will have to ring CCCS tomorrow to update them but am so worried that my application will take even longer but what can I do. I thought about going to another intermediary but I think they are all as equally busy.

It doesn't matter if your debts are passed on to debt agencies, the worst that will happen is you will get a County Court Judgement and this can be included in the DRO. It doesn't stop the worrying I know but be assured this is the worst they can do, they cannot send bailiffs. Although I have had letters saying they will send collection managers, they have never turned up though as it will cost them money and even if they do, just tell them the same - you are seeking advice as you cannot afford to pay anything!

Good luck and hope it gets sorted soon

I have rang the CCCS today, they have checked my paperwork, now it should take a further 3 and a half weeks for a counsellor to check through it and give me a ring to complete the application form for the DRO! My income/expenditure has changed slightly (surplus is still below £50) as I have had to go on to Income Support but they will change these details when filling in the application form. I feel a bit more relieved knowing that it is progressing, just hope it won't get rejected for any reason!

I posted this somewhere else but was advised to re-post here.

hello, i am currently on a DMP with the CCCS but my budget amounts are set really low and i'm not manageing on it, they have suggested a Debt Relief Order as an alternative which i am considering, however i have got a question that they can't answer without referring me through to the other department which requires an appointment so i am hoping someone here can help please.

I live with my fiance but the tenancy agreement and bills are all in his name, although we go 50/50 on everything, now this is fine for the DMP as they don't need any evidence of how muich your rent and bills are, they just take your word for it, but with a Debt relief order would they need actual proof of how much i pay for things like gas and electric?

Also I am in arrears with council tax from a previous address, council tax couldn't be included in my debt management plan as it's an essential service - i am assuming the same applied with a DRO, in which case can the amount i am paying each month on my council tax arrears be taken into account as part of my normal expenses?

    Thanks very much

The full amount of all debts you are liable for are included in DROs, including joint debt. At £15521 you are over the 15k limit for a DRO so would not be able to do one until such time as your debts go below 15k. Would it be possible to have your name removed from the overdraft? If so then it would not be included and you could go ahead with a DRO.

Contact your local CAB and see what their waiting time is, then CCCS, then national debtline. Go with whoever's waiting list is shortest :)
