My DRO was satisfied in October 2012. I wrote to all my creditors to inform them and ask them to mark the debt as satisfied, but two (Halifax and Cahoot) have refused to respond or comply with my request.

Halifax have been really problematic throughout my DRO, refusing to acknowledge receipt of my DRO paperwork from THe Insolvency Service *and* copies I sent them. Even to this day, they continue to harass me on a daily basis looking for the loan to be repaid.

I sent them a recorded delivery letter in November asking them to update my credit file but they just ignore me.

I'm going to send another letter to them today but is there anything else I can do?

I urgently need this cleaned up as I have a security clearance renewal coming up in March and credit file checks are part of the procedure.

Try contacting the DRO Unit and asking them to contact Halifax and Cahoot to remind them of the rules of the DRO on the creditors and what it means
  • I am currently going through the process of getting a DRO with StepChange. I have only done the initial basic details over the phone and waiting on a second call on Thursday. I am doing the DRO in my name. They are currently taking information on my income which is just DLA of £298 per month and my husbands which is £1229.02 a month. My debts are exactly £7581.07. Is my husbands income going to hinder my application for a DRO at all? As it stands going on just my income which is basically used up every month by transport and used solely for my disability. If we included his wages we would have an excess of £250 a month before food etc after all priority debts were paid. Just want to know if they include his wages when i am applying in my name?

    Hi LLCarpenter,

My wife and i are in virtually the same situation as you.

Stepchange completely ignored my income and based the DRO solely on my wifes DLA money.
Her DLA income was accounted for her disability needs which left her income at £0 and £0 left over per month.
Just make sure they know that your husband pays for all bills, food, telephones etc.

    Hope this helps.

Thank you! Was a bit wary of the initial phone conversation yesterday when they started asking about my husbands income. Even so, after all priority debts are paid we only have just enough for food and thats it so I dont think I have anything to worry about. Thanks again for the reply! :)
  • Hello I have applied for a DRO with national debt helpline. I have submitted all my paper work and this was acknowledged and I meet the criteria I was sent a letter mid December saying it will be 9 week wait. I think this is until the approved person looks at it. As it will be 9 weeks in a week or 2 I am becoming very anxious about what will happen next. I have problems with anxiety and do tend to let things get the better of me. I now imagine my finances and life will be scrutinised and they will want to know what every item on my bank statement is for. I am also concerned that I will have to justify why I am in debt and if my reasons will be acceptable to them.

I also want to know what happens next? Will someone from national debt helpline go through my paper work will they contact me? I've found it really difficult going through it all on the phone. Are they going to need more things? It was quite stressful getting everything together in the first place.

Thanks for your time. Hopefully once this is done I can relay my experience and help others too.
  • Hi Everyone,
I completed my debt relief order back in November but after having checked my experian credit report a number of the debts included in the DRO still dont show as "satisfied" (one of the does but thats it!)
Does anyone know how i can get this sorted out, i have emailed insolvency service but the auto-reply said they reply withing 15 days, will they arrange the satisfaction of these outstanding balances or do i have to contact each individual creditor? (dont really want to do that lol!)

Sorry have been trawling internet for hours looking for the snwer to this but alas, no luck!

    Thanks

You need to contact the individual creditors yourself. Is it really such a big deal for you to send a letter to a couple of lenders...?

If they ignore you or refuse to update your credit record, make an official complaint. If that doesn't work, make a complaint via the Financial Ombudsman.
